Welcome to SFC! I used to go up to those parts in my former life...do they still make parking spots too small for a SUV up there so they can walk by and scoff at you?
Be sure to check out the New England forum down below- it's filled with plenty of good guys and good information.
8lb largemouth ?? In New England.....that's awesome....you'll need to share where you caught that hog-bass.....got photos?
My son was 6 when he caught a 7.5lb largemouth near Midcoast Maine- Damariscotta Lake- released unharmed, we later researched the size/girth/age estimation of the fish and determined it was probably 10 yrs old. That's a long life in the Maine lakes....where 2-3 ft of ice is not uncommon- shorter growing season.

ANOTHER WELCOME FROM AN EX-VERMONT HARD CORE BASS FISHERMAN. HAD A SUMMER HOME IN EAST POULTNEY AND FISHED THOSE LAKES UP THERE BACK WHEN THE LOCALS USED TO SAY, "WHAT KINDA BOAT IS THAT, MISTA?". OF COURSE, IT WAS A FULL BLOWN BASS BOAT, THE FIRST THAT MOST HAD EVER SEEN.
ST. CATHERINE, BOMOSEEN, LITTLE, INCREDIBLE BIG BASS FACTORIES LIKE BURR POND AND DUNSMORE. UNBELIEVABLE GOOD BIG DUMBASS BASS (THE FINEST KIND IMO) FISHING. AND OF COURSE THERE WAS CHAMPLAIN, WHICH IS STILL GREAT, BUT BACK THEN, WELL, YOU CAN IMAGINE. AND THOUSAND ISLANDS (LAKE OF THE ISLES WHEN IT WAS COMPLETELY VIRGIN) AND THE CANADIAN LAKES JUST ACROSS THE BORDER, LIKE BIG RIDEAU.
YOU LIVE IN GOD'S COUNTRY, MY FRIEND, AND NOT JUST BECAUSE OF THE FISHING. IT'S AN OUTDOOR PARADISE.
