fadigemm, welcome to the site. This is a question that is not aimed at you but because you fish the Mediteranian sea. Is the bluefin tuna fishery in as much trouble as we are told it is in the USA? And if so is anything being done to make it right?
I look forward to listening and learning from you reports in the future.

The bluefin population in the Med has been dwindling year after year due to the commercial fishing pressure. The means that these guys are using have been getting more and more sophisticated(Big and fast trawlers/seiners,recon planes , super sonars......).On top of all that it seems that the big "mama" bluefins are getting smaller and smaller.
So what you hear about the situation is true.
IMO ,very little is being done about it,despite the European ban on bluefin fishing that took effect last june.Too many loopholes exist in the quota system being applied.I think a 5 or 10 year total moratorium might be the only solution for having a healthy bluefin population in the Med again. But too many economic interests are at play for this solution to be applied any time soon(it will happen when it is too late.Refer to the north sea cod situation......)
