Heading out of VA Beach 5-9-07
Anyone heading out this weekend - early forecast seems ok, little snotty but it's still early.
Anyone seeing any tuna up this far?
Also, where should I put in, any recommendations for a easy access launch to the ocean from the VA Beach area? Any help is appreciated???

Sit down Shut up And fish
Outta VA Beach, put in at the Owls Creek ramp (Rudee inlet). I'm planning on either Friday or Saturday...I'll be coming out of the bay but might overnight at Rudee if the plan is to run SE below the Cigar.
Some fish have been caught (as of last week) on the backside and south of the Cigar in 100 to 250 fathoms I believe...have to wait and see what the water looks like via a sat shot to decide where I'm going.

Thanks Glenn,
I'm looking at the weather and SST to forecast Saturday. Unfortunately, I'm limited to fishing Saturday only, sort of a go or no go decision late this week.
I'll trailer down from MD on Friday, any recommendations for a nice but inexpensive hotel for Friday?

Summer in VA Beach is a tough one...you'll pay a lot almost no matter what. Consider looking maybe 10-15 minutes away from the beach. There is a Fairfield Inn Marriott which is OK...about 15 minutes to the ramp from there...prices should not be too bad. It's right off I-264.

I spoke to a buddy earlier today who went out from VB Saturday. They went overboard on the 045 line and found a break from 66 to 71 deg. Several tunas and gaffers were caught in the area, they went 1-4 on tunas and a few dolphin. When they turned to head for the barn, they were 91nm from the mouth of the bay.
They are out there if you want them, but you have to want them pretty bad.
Good luck if you go. Hope you land on top of them and hit them hard. Luckily we're at the time of year with the greatest length of daylight so you can get out there and back and not have to run in the dark too long.
