    Hawks Cay Keys

My family is looking for a place to have a reunion in the first week of August, 5 nights. Hawks Cay is on the top of the list. They have 2, 3 , and 4br villas to rent. I realize the Keys will be HOT, but thats why there is AC for those who don't like the heat.

We are 3 families, spread out, 7 locations to travel from. A few will fish a couple of days, others relaxing at the resort.

Anyone have opinions of Hawks Cay? I hear it is expensive. Are there any restaurants or watering holes in walking distance (other than the resort) ? 2 mile walk will work. How about cabs, any available?

    Thanks , John

Just did a week in march at La siesta resort in Islamorada. Right in the middle of everything, 1/2 mile from World Wide sportsman, which has Islamorada fish company restaurant on the docks and Zane Grey lounge upstairs for after dinner, plenty of other restaurants very close.

The Theater of the Sea is right there too, which was cool for kids and adults, they have dolphin/sealion and parrot shows daily.

Your 1/4 mile from Bud and Mary's and 1 mile from Robbies, both have restaurants and bars and fishing.

    We drove by Hawks Cay, its kinda in the middle of no where between Islamorada and Marathon;

Resort has an awesome pool and nice sandy area on the water with docks, I fished everyday from the docks at the resort and caught snapper, puffers, sheeps head, and some other little exotic fish I didn't know what they were. There were lobsters there to, but I never jumped in to get them, water was a touch chilly,

here are some pics from my trip last month; all of them are at the resort except the sunset at zane grey lounge and the theater of the sea, which are both a couple minutes away. 80 miles south of Miami, drove down in about 1.5 hrs.

If you get to the keys look up pretty work charters, used them in the back country and was an awesome trip, Capt Clyde caught fish all day, they do offshore and inshore.

Forgot to mention their standard suites have a full kitchen with seperate bedroom, then they have about 10 little villas on the beach for bigger groups, but you will see all that on their website. They have grills and picnic tables under a gazebo on the beach to if you wanna grill out.

Why not think about Key West? Anything anyone would want to do is with walking distance there. Great restaurants, wonderful fishing and lots of night life if you want it.
Wouldn't worry about the heat as the winds are usualy blowing cooling it down somewhat.

    Hawks Cay

Stayed there two years ago in a Villa, excellent, all you need for families on the resort, restaurants, bar, activites, pool, maybe a little expensive but it's worth the cost.

    Good Luck

I just returned from the Reach in Key west. I highly recommend it. The hotel is nice, the location is excellent, good for whole family. Also, they have a private beach just off of the pool, they have water sport rentals kayaks, jet skis, hobie cat sailboats, and charters can get picked up at the docks. Also, you can use their sister property just down a few doors down, casa maria. I would def look into reach, i would go back

    have fun

You may want to check out Key Colony Beach Rentals which is located on the north end of Marathon. You can rent homes there and most back up to canals that the kids will love to fish from. The beach club has a nice beach, bar and restaurant and Marathon has grocery stores and also the old 7 mile bridge is cool to walk or bike on. Other side of 7 mi. bridge is Bahia Honda State Park which is the largest beach in the Keys. There are alot of places to eat/drink in Marathon and Key west is only about an hour south, if you want to go down there for a day. Ilamorada is also very nice but I prefer Marathon's location. More in the middle. Fishing guides are everywhere down there. Hawks Cay is nice but is a little isolated and a little pricey. Summer is the off season down there so you should have no problem finding availability. If it's your first time down there you may want to check out a couple of places along the Keys, say 2days Ilamorada, 1-2 days in Key West(Party Town) and 2 in Marathon. Have Fun!
