Have Higher Gas Prices Changed Your Fishing Habits

Hooked up the boat for the first time over the weekend and headed to the coast. Gas for the truck alone was just 3 cents under $100.

Had figured on the cost before the trip so we did something we rarely do, we fished near shore waters instead of heading out to cobalt blue. Actually, we just put in at a ramp near the San Luis Pass highway bridge and motored slowly out to the bridge (about 3/4th of a mile) and anchored up to soak some croakers for trout. Did pretty well too, but not spectacularly.

3/4th of a mile back to the ramp and home.

Next trip we intend to, get this, actually go outside the breakers about a half mile and until we're in about 30 ft. of water and then anchor up and chum for sharks. Pretty low brow stuff, but the kids will like it I'm sure.

So, the price of gas has really changed my fishing plans / habits. If I can get there and just drift baits I guess that'll still be in the cards too. But trolling all day, pretty well out of the question anymore. I can't afford a $500 trip with the boy going to college in the Fall and with a bulkhead to repair ($20K by all estimates).

Anyone else change their fishing haunts or methods too in response to the high gas prices?

    HOW ABOUT THIS...

HIGHER GAS PRICES HAVE CHANGED OUR WAY OF LIFE...

YOUR QUESTION SHOULD BE, WHY ARE WE PERMITTING THIS TO HAPPEN TO US AGAIN...

    Nope,

I plan on leaving as big a "carbon footprint" as possible. I quit drinking several year's back, I used to drink more money than I waste in gas! Screw em', I'm goin fishin'. Kid's are out of the house. If they want to go to colledge they can spend their 4 year's in the service and apply for the GI Bill for their education. Life is good around here. LongFisher you must be doin something wrong, you're complaining about the cost of fishing and I'm looking for a bigger boat. Glad I don't sell insurance!!!!! Frank
