    It happened again....

I went into a watering hole the other day, and of course the few patrons at the bar took notice of the white cane. The bartender knows me, and asked how I was doing, a casual question asked. I stated that I was just waiting for the spring to hurry up and get here so I can get back out on the kayak and get some fish. The conversation lasted a couple minutes longer with me adding some quips about not putting my arse in water temperatures that we have even if we get warm days, and the bartender throwing a few comments about my being a chichen.... He went on about his business, and I went about drinking my beer and contemplating my goals for this new year..... That's when I got broadsided again.....

"You know you have no business being out there in the water." The complete stranger a couple bar stools down says.

I didn't know he was talking to me at first. It wasn't until he moved closer and went on with a little speal about kayakers being a hazard in themselves, but a blind person in one had "no right" to be out there. I stayed qiet, let him go on until I heard the bartender come back in my direction, slid some money out, said to my friend thatI'd be back when the place didn't smell like BS, and left. (Later went back and explained to the bartender what happened. He said that he put two and tow together about the guy after my departure.)

Really puts a damper on what I have been accomplishing for myself over the last year and what I have hopes to do this year.

Sorry, I've been thinking about this and just had to vent.

Wave , you should be proud of your accomplishments, what you do takes alot of guts and don't let some bar jerk take it away from you. he probably was a sailboater anyway.

Wave, good to here form you. Don't worry about that guy. He is not well informed, nor does he know you like we do. He is the one that is blind in one eye and can't see out of the other. ( big smile...LOL) Stay warm...

Damn Wave! That bites ass... I wish I was there to snap a topsider off in his scuppers.... Some people are past the point of just ignorant and carry stupidity to new lows...

For me its an honor just to have made your aquaintence through these threads. I have my vision so I can't fully relate but I do see clearly that you are not "handicapped". You take something that is a disadvantage and snub your nose at it. You have every right to be proud of your accomplishments and I don't think that any person with any degree of intellignce would dare to argue that.
    Rock on my friend...

    Thanks guys!

A blowboater, LMAO, that could explain it!!

This has been an interesting learning experience. Gotten advice and some knowlege from some very experienced kayakers on the safety aspect. Put that together with the things I remember from growing up on the water, and then tried to get my own experience in the yak. As I told you, I met a widower with NO saltwater fishing experience, and taught him to be my "backseater", or "tiller man" if you will.

I put us on water that is safe. No strong currents to carry us into trouble. Places and times when there is low to no boat traffic. Makes for lousy fishing, but we stay out of trouble and catch a few fish, though nothing to brag about.

It just burned my butt to have this guy mouth off not knowing all of this, and the way he came across, it seemed as though he spent time on the water. I picture him in my mind as the type who got himself a boat and hit the water without care... Then calls me a hazard. May not be true, but makes me feel better. LOL

Let him go. There is no room for people like that regardless of how hard he chooses to try to nudge himself in. Guaranteed ... he is a miserable f#*k trying in some twisted, rediculous way to feel better about himself.
