Arrow HAITI....what devastation......tis sad....donation to Red Cross made & prayers sent

seems catastrophe always hits poverty stricken lands.....the US has economically funded Haiti in the past....now Obama is pledging 100 million+ dollars.....in relief

in a time of such devastation i hope that CORRUPTION within Haiti (based upon their past) does not overcome the relief aid being forwarded to them.....

also glad to see other countries across the globe stepping up to the plate....since America does not need Haiti as our 51st state.....

catastrophic devastation whether it be here in the USA or abroard with 100,000+ dead or missing is something no people should have to endure....

Prayers for the Dead...these not yet rescued....and the rescuers...sent

why ?? why are we sending money $100+million to that country ?? why ?? can someone tell me ??
it wasn't that long ago,our own country,we had the gulf region in devistation, anyone remember this ?? some of those people are still to this day living in trailers...sad huh ??
in our own country,we've got a serious economic problem, people are out of work, biz sucks, people are losing their houses,we have uninsured people who desperatly need medical care-do i really need to continue ?? but,in the midst of all this,we're sending troops, and money to help these people...don't get me wrong, anyone who knows me,knows i would give the shirt off my back to help someone...but,is this really a good idea ?? honestly, doesn't charity begin at home...

I agree with you in the fact that if you want to send money, do it directly to hospitals, etc. in Haiti. The Red Cross has been taking alot of money in for disasters and a very small percentage going directly to the people who need it.

Yep, you pretty much sound like a A$%#$*A%(*$ JERK.

This is a HUMANITARIAN crisis and requires a global response. When WTC occurred and when Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf volunteers from my home countries (both Bermuda and Canada) went to provide assistance and sent significant donations. Pledges and support from the governments were provided as well.

    No time to be xenophobic.

Long before this site was around, I used to jump both feet into disaster relief stuff. I rode out Hurricane Andrew at Ocean Reef. The place came apart around me... Destroyed... My car survived though. I drove back to Palm Beach and before the engine had even cooled down I was loaded and back down in the thick of it. i had two home. One was gone the other wasn't I would be ok but what about those poor souls who had no place left?
Two weeks I imersed myself in there. Helping. Seeing shit people shouldn't see. Horror stories... Then there was those that took advantage of the bad situation... Gouging, hoarding, stealing,
Not long after I headed into the heart of Hugo's path and did the same. Helping people is great. Seeing the bloodsuckers gouging ten bucks for a bottle of water or bag of ice though brought me to a bil. After that though I realized the empotional toll, the scrarring it was leaving on my very soul. Yes I helped people and helped a lot but at what cost?
We had Frances, then Jeanne, then Wilma back to back to back in my own back yard and again I jumped in with both feet... Again the dark side of people comming to the surface. Ten bucks a gallon for gas. I watch in contempt as Hackboob and Rajah rake in the dough laughing as they are fleecing already hurt people.
Then came Katrina. I raced up there, two car loads of survival stuff but stopped by local law paople before I could get into the thick. Blocked from giving aid while they scratched their heads as to the best way to coordinate what to do. That was frustrating. While they scratched their heads and planned people had nothing. Hell I have no way of knowing if the guys who stopped me didn't just turn around and sold it. It took its toll I and had nothing left in the emotional gas tank to give.
Just a couple hours ago I seriously considered jumping on a plane headed down there and giving a hand... Then I thought about it harder. Each successive time I have gone on a mission of mercy I come back a little more tore up. You can only see so much sadness and misery before it gets to you. Haiti is a hot bed of corrupt and crooked... The press had to hire armed guards cause had they not some slimy bastards could kidnap them and hold em for hostage. Not to get money to help but to again take advantage of a bad situation for their own gain. You become hard and cold and you carry that home with you.
In my trips to Africa I see millions of dollars worth of American food donations stopped, stolen , then resold to a fortunate few at obscene prices.
Until I can figure a way to shake that baggage. I can't help. I know full well that our best efforts will be sidetracked by local hoods looking for a quick buck and the poor people we are trying to reach will never see our good will.

can honestly say...i gave a lot of thought into should i donate or not.....and how we have NOT cleaned up from our own disaster...(Katrina)....yet alone the mounting debt it caused.....can see it now...Bama wants Haiti to be the 51st state....

again my biggest concern is that they (Haitians) have a legitimate financial oversight in place....so that money gets to the people and those in need....NOT a CORRUPT self appointed dictator and his followers who give a F about anyones well being and safety as that country has experienced in the past....

ALSO.....shirt of your back.....OK..i wear a XXL...with NO holes or anti-fouling paint stains.....
