I know everyone might think I'm crazy but....I went to Duke and really feel like I wasted 4 years!! I owned a pizzeria on Hatteras and can't tell you how many cooks and wait staff I had that had great degrees but couldn't get a job because every year 30,000 other kids get the same useless degree. Think about a trade or something of the such. I'm fishing in Costa fulltime now and couldn't be happier. Money isn't everything!! It's for sure good. But if you can't enjoy yourself you might as well shoot yourself!!

What about construction. I go to Virginia Tech and got my undergrad in buisness management then went stright to grad school for building construction. Grad program is 3 semesters for a construction management degree. Last summer I had 5 internship offers and made 20 bucks/hr for a summer job as a assistant project manager. I graduate in 1 year and most classmates who are graduating this spring have atleast 3 job offers already. There will always be a demand for a good PM and always a demand for some type of construction be it roads, schools, commericial, govt. etc.

I graduated from UNCW in December with a finance degree. I chose this because of the many different topics covered in the coursework and directions you can go with it. Some fields covered by a finance degree include real estate, commercial banking, corporate finance, stocks + bonds, personal financial advising,, etc. I recently chose the corporate finance route and got a job with a healthcare company here in town as a financial analyst. I feel like with this degree I am not locked down to this type of work if I decide later on that I don't enjoy it. I'm still keeping the open the option of going back for my MBA. Good luck, the important thing is that he's continuing his education.

I choose to skip college, and do a year at a prep school. This gives me a year to step up my tennis game even more, to get more looks from college coaches for a scholarships. Financially I don't need a free ride at school but, my father motivated me with a trade I get a free ride and then he'll give me the money he would have spent when I Graduate.....This PG year has been the best thing I have ever done...I needed this to Mature. I'll tell you my kids will do one. As for next year, It's either going to be Bentley, Bryant, Northeastern or Boston College....I wish I could do Johnson and Whales cause they only have a 4 day school week... which leaves the rest of the week for fishing...(dad doesnt approve).......

    Captain Larry,
I think you misunderstood. I said that business and communication degrees are a dime a dozen, an MBA is important to progress in many instances, which is why many jobs are paying for their employees to get one. I don't want to downplay the MBA.

When you work for someone else you are making THEM money- Plain and simple. My advice is tell him to get a degree in whatever and then start his own business. That's how you get a new 61' Viking....
