    Guatemala Fishing?

Back in July I won a fishing trip to Guatemala at the Barta Tournament in Morehead City. Just started planning the trip and looks like I'll be going sometime between Feb and May. What I was curious to know was that if any members had been to Casa Vieja/Fins and Feathers Lodge and what I could expect. I understand that the fishing is unbelievable, but does the area have anything else to offer as far as nitelife or extracurricular activities. Also, how safe is travel in the area? Just trying understand what to expect.

Really really good fishing. Almost too good! If that is possible. On the nightlife side I would say that there is not much other than the lodge. A beautiful country with a bad gang and crime problem around the larger towns. Still a GREAT spot to go. You can aways find stuff to do if you look hard enough. Have a great time and try to beat last years 124 released Sails in a day.

Yeah I was there a few years ago. Stayed at the fins and feathers lodge. I think it has new owners now. Awfully good sailfishing there in Guatemala thats for sure. Sounds like a good opportunity for you to try with a fly if you ever wanted to do that. When I was there the place was all enclosed in fence and razor wire with a couple of armed guards at night. I know we never left the place after we got back from fishing. I guess its not too safe around that area but don't know for sure. Hope you have good fishing and have a good time.

A good extracurricular is to spend a day in Antigua, amazing city with great hotels and restaurants - but the fishing is insane. I was there last december and caught 85 in 2 days- cant wait to go back this year
