Greetings from The NC Dept of Environmental and Natural Resources

Just went to the mail box and it's already starting to fill with Christmas cards from friends, relatives and Credit Card Companies.
One Card caught my eye due to its shear size and bulk.
I thought how kind for the aforementioned agency to be sending me what must be a whopper of a Christmas Card.

    Wrong again Kemosabee.

It is a friendly reminder that effective January 1, 2007 all passengers aboard the Bite Me must have a NC Fishing License and I must have a For Hire license.
Now I can save them the trouble if I buy a blanket for hire license for $250 that will cover the boat and all passengers for a period of 12 months from the date of issue. The application is one page, the bulk is the 23 pages of instructions on how to fill out the one page.

Needless to say, they will get the 250 Bucks.

Would have been so much better if it were just a card.

I sure hope that they spend all this money on circle hook education .

    Don't get me started

Its a crock......... More paper.......... more employees.......more money ......... For what? What do we get for this license? nothing ,absolutely nothing .....except to get harrassed more by the authorities....... Yep every one says oh its $250 and it covers everyone on the boat........ Originally it was going to cost alot more until some lobbyist went to work for N.C. waterman asssociation... My gripe is this $250 now and when they say we need more money to operate guess what it will go up. Well, most the time I'm in federal water.. Not state water. I have to have a tuna permit, dolphin/ wahoo permit.( eventhough my tuna permit says for pelagic fish) reef fish permit for tiles and grouper, sea bass and a mackerel permit. Yep, I'll pay my $250, but I think they should stuff that license where the sun don't shine.

    Ok I FEEL BETTER NOW

I don't mind paying for a license, but once they get their hands in your pocket it is inevitable they will dig in deeper sooner or later, more than likely sooner.

Virginia started theirs 7 or 8 years ago. The money was supposed to go for research and improving fisheries and access. After 6 years they remembered the money pool and upped the license fees. My biggest gripe with ours is that moneys were used to build fishing ramps, and then on some of them we still pay a fee for use.

One good things for the NC charter guys, at least they can purchase a boat license. Us reccreationals have to buy one each for every one in the boat in NC.

Thats another issue and that ain't right. They should have a recprocal license, like for freshwater for neighboring states. I know at kerr lake you can have either. I think its still that way.
My gripe is its federal water I fish iin and is governed by the Coast Guard not the state. If you fish within state water then theres nothing I can say.

And second, where does the money go? I don't know! I'm sure there are some good intentions but I know these fees will go up..... It was originally proposed at $6,000 for a blanket license. this could force me to do something else or move somewhere..... Or cause rec fisherman to do the same .

The charter business is already slow and has been for several yrs in this area with rising cost, that is passed on to our customers. This fee is just another one we have to pass on.

I think the revenue form taxes and tourism is far greater than what the state will make from these licenses. thats just my thoughts.

If they want to save the enviroment and money they should just cut back on the bullshit stack of forms and papers they send you better yet hell just let some real fisherman run things up there instead of a bunch of pencil necks! Oh yeah merry christmas Lou i'm savin paper. Let's go catch some bluefins man!!!!!!!!

John, I think that you are missing the point here. They can't patrol the Mexican border cause they are too busy enforcing this kind of crap.
I am sure that somewhere there is a master plan that makes sense.

    God, I hope so.
