A great trip to Venice, La

Great lump trip with STRIKE ZONE CHARTERS Sunday!! We arrived saturday afternoon to have big steaks grilled at the dock at cypress cove. some of us slept on the boat and the rest of the group stayed at the newley renovated Cypres Cove motel. We left at 5:00am sharp and arrived to find only a few boats at the lump. Captain Kevin and his two talented deck hands [Justin and Nick], started chumming and we instantly had bonito and blackfin behind the boat and proceded to catch these as soon as our lines hit the water. After a few lost fish we put the first yellowfin in the boat. After a few high fives Kevin sees a giant mako shark 10 feet off the transom of the boat.This fish was huge and he made lazy figure eights behind the big 55 foot Ocean sportfisherman and ate the bonito heads we tossed to him while the captain rigged up a long steel leader on a heavy stand up rod for this giant fish. A big slab of bonito was used to bait the monster and the fight was on seconds after the big bait hit the water. The fish simply swam where he wanted to go and the huge standup rod now felt much too small for the job. After a short while the hook pulled and the mako was not seen again. I will try to post the great digital movie footage on Mike Lanes vidio site if I can figure out how to do it. Back at the anchor ball we returned to catch more blackfin and yellowfin. at the end of our fishing day we enjoyed a great homemade jambalya on the lump while the mates cleaned the bloody cockpit and prepared the boat for the foggy run back to vinice via Tiger pass. The yellowfin, blackfin, amberjack and beeliner snappers were cleaned, bagged and packed to the top of our ice chests by the tireless crew of the Strike Zone for the trip home. This trip simply could not have been better and we all had a great time. We are so lucky to have such a great fishing destination so close to home !!! STRIKE ZONE CHARTERS 225-279-3800
