My nieghbor signed up for the "BLUE ROOF PROJECT" after Hurricane Wilma and they came out and I signed up to. Well they came out tonight and put this heavy blue tarp material on my roof that was damaged. Well they take the roll out, and it must of been 100 X 100 feet. So the guys cut off the excess, which is probably 75 X 50 feet( only the south side of the roof damaged). They drop it on the side of my house, and the WIFE says, that will make a great boat cover???? She says do you want me to ask them if we can have it? The same woman who bitches about the boat?? I am really confused at this point! I said, no, lets see if they forget about it and leave it. Well then my lovely wife says to them, Hey, Ya Want A Beer?? Now shes giving my beer away??? They, in turn replie, when we get off the roof. Next thing ya know, the guy in charge say's, if you want we could leave the extra material here by accident? Of course I said, no problem, I will dispose of that for ya! I get a boat cover, a roof cover for next Hurricane season, and 4 less beers in the fridge. Freaking women, come out kiss a little ass and take us for anything they can. In this case it worked out for me .

There is still crap everywhere! It is a slow go. The head guy that did my Blue Roof said he went to New Orleans Area to start work. They had a meeting and were givin the the low down. Turned around and left with half the other contractors there. He said it was a cluster F@CK! I guess we have a little more experience at this crap then they do. The gulf coast is going to be feeling the effects for years. There will be a new time line written in there history, "BEFORE KATRINA OR AFTER KATRINA" That will be the way people refer to things for years to come. As an A/C contractor I am starting to replace Hurricane Andrew replacement units now. The same thing I hear everytime is, Oh that was replaced after Andrew. The year 1992 down here has been replaced by "ANDREW" as has 2005 by "KATRINA" up there.

It seems that they are working from the least hit areas (my area) and working their way to the most effected... I have heard that there are wayyyy tooo many chiefs over more west in Miss. and La. and things are getting confused.. My friend in Baton Rouge said it seems as if nothing is getting done like a dog chasing its tail... But, I am sure they are trying... We have not had a major hurricane here since a storm named Fredrick ... but I was not living here at that time... so I do not know how bad they had it then...All I know is I don't want another cat. 5 to hit here...I see cars from all over the U S here.. Many, Many from Illinoise.. I guess maybe they are working for Pilot??
We are now hoping for snow that would finish this year off with a high note... well at least for my kids..
I just got back from Miami visiting my dad. The prices down there are out of control!!!! He only had a little damage, missing facial boards, screens off the porch, etc. He had a guy come by the day before I got there, to replace 5 90"x54" screens and one 8 ft section of facial board $2600 I went to Home Depot bought the needed material, less than $300 and did it all in one day. Damn those people have some balls even giving an estimate that high.
Well whats happening is that people are slammed with work. There are roofers that are already a year behind. They give the high estimate and if they get the job great! If not, no big deal. Materials are getting harder to get. Dog eared fencing gone! Concrete gone as fast as it comes in, etc. etc.... I straightened the tarp they left behind, I found it to big and beuatiful (you know your hurricane hardened when a TARP appears bueatiful) to cut up. She has been put away for the next storm in case the brothers or I need it.
