Got carded for cough medicine!!!!

OK, Chuck is sick and in bed, and like most guys out there it takes alot to admit that they're sick. He asks me to go out and get him more cough medicine for day and night so I go to my local drug store and pick up a bottle each for Tylenol Day and Tylenol Night. I get to the counter and am asked for my driver's license?!?! Told that the ingredient in the Nighttime can be used to take home to make methedone so they want to register everyone who buys it.

When did this law come into effect???? Is this federal or just in New Jersey?? I'm not questioning the reasoning behind it but just wondering if all pharmacies and drug stores are really enforcing this since I purchased the same produce not four months ago and had no problem.

Pseudoepedrine is an ingedient in many cough and sinus prepartions. With a little chemical knowledge it can be converted to Methamphetamine. Some states had laws restricting its sale earlier this year. The federal law went into effect at the end of September. All pseudoephedrine and ephedrine products must be behind the counter. You are required to sign and show ID. There are limits to the number of tablets or cc's of liquid you can buy at 1 time. All pharmacies had to provide training to their staffs inorder to get a permit to sell these products. It is a little bit of overkill. Putting them behind the counter and restricting quantity should be enough. Besides I heard that 1 small manufacturer sent 30 million tablets to a non existant address in Mexico. That should keep the junkies supplied for a while

They do the same thing for Claratin sinus medicine. Most stores have cards in the isles and you have to take them to the pharmacist and show I.D.

Its been done to me in both Delaware and Pennsylvania.

Snakeyes, nope they didn't have these behind the counter. They were there in the general isle. Also, the salesperson got confused because she almost didn't let me buy both bottles. You're limited to a certain # of ounces per day, but the daytime medicine doesn't carry the same ingredients.

All for controlling illegal substances. Just confused, you're the second person saying that they're supposed to be behind the counter. I picked it up from the aisle, and there were no notices or pamphlets present.

Also, it wasn't about the age of the purchaser, just about us signing a form for the FDA.
