Smile Good to have Gas Again

Dependency... A word I know being an alkie that doesn't drink any more. Not all together free of addictions though. Working on putting the cigarettes out being one. The others aren't quite as visible but are there and shared by most of us.
Dependency on utilities... Electric, water, cable, dsl, and natural gas. Yesterday a freak series of events shut down the natural gas supply to about 10,500 customers in our area. Something we take for granted and come to expect to always be there suddenly wasn't. Damn! It gets uncomfortable quick. No hot shower, no stove, no regular oven, no dryer and not even any local restaurants open because of it...
Hurricane comming you can brace for losing all the utilities but when it comes without notice one gets taken off guard. Wife who cooks non stop, daughter who showers a couple times a day, and me using it for instant coffee tossed in a tailspin.
Not like other utilities going out. They have to seal off everything, bring back to pressure then house by house bring it back on line... 10,500 houses they have to physically go in, open the lines, and make sure the pilot lights do their job...
We got lucky. Close to the main line we were among the first to get gas flowing again. Thank you good people at TECO/Peoples for keeping the jitters to a minimum...

I live in full color... Not about me as such. Just a look at ourselves as a whole and how we have become so dependent on stuff over the years.
When I was a kid we had like 4 channels on tv and no remotes, you had to turn a knob on the set. Now we have 70 and remotes that do everything short of giving you a massage.
My first computer measured its memory in KB. Now its gigs. Took forever to load a page of info. Now we load volumes of info and photos and vids in seconds.
Our old phones were plugged in a wall and you had to turn a dial to make a number. Today cells are information super highways.

Take something so simple out of the equation and our lives turn upside down. As a whole... we are spoiled. Thats what this is about...

Nope heard about it on tv. Tried my gas and it didn't work. I sat down and cried about cold showers, no Missus Deep home made chocolate chip cookies, and cold instant coffee. Last night two guys jumped out of their truck and turned it back on... Sorry to disappoint...
