as a mate, who mated with their mate....it always about being on. that means your not stumbling around. your not getting pissed off at everyone around you b/c you cant find your swivels or your crimps. Make every person that comes on your boat feel important. If your mate is sleeping off a hangover, while he could be doing something or getting to know someone...it just looks real bad.

I hated showing my ex up, but if he wasnt gonna pull through someone had to. and sometimes i was the one sleeping...off a hangover..but most of the time i saw those guys out and they wouldnt stop talking about the time they saw a girl gut 9 tunas...ir the time this guy free gaffed a 67lb dolphin...Thats what makes them remember....Not that they were yelled at all day by a cranky mate who didnt take the time to explain something the angler might not have known.

Appearance is a must, i fished everyday this past season with some very wealthy and important people, (and even though i am female) it was important for me to show my boss and his friends professionalism. Yeah we had fun..alot of it. But i didnt roll up with bloodied up tshirts, and torns shorts. My beer gut didnt grow through out the season...and my ass crack didnt hang out of my shorts (GUYS)
yeah we all get bloody, but there is a limit. Sorry to say it.

BUT. appearance is HUGE....and that is my two cents for the evening.
What I meant by professional is showing up clean. I'm not big on fresh pressed khakis and epilets though I actually worked on boats like that. All my mates have been trim and quick. I keep spare clothes and dry shoes aboard for both him and me. Dark pants and white base fishing related tees are the base uniform, though a colored t is permitted on cooler days.
On the sleeping thing I point out that ALL our prep work is done the night before. When he wakes theres no stumbling mumbling or anything. He's well rested and on his game. Sleep privilage is for staying as fresh as possible not for shaking off last nights bender. A hungover mate is something I won't tollerate. If they want to go get blistered at night, I have no room for em in my pit the next day. If they want to keep their job they best not show up bent or at least have a pre approved replacement for their day off in place.
