Going to South Padre looking for advice

I'm going to South Padre for spring break I have never been before and I want to catch some fish, I'm an avid fisherman and I want to return and make it a regular fishing destination. I was wondering if someone could help me out and let me know some hot spots to fish and what to use for bait? I understand the water temp is going to be about 70 degrees should I use live or artificial and should I fish in the surf or the bay or both for different species?

    I fish S. Padre a Lot...

...what do you want to fish for?

Right now there are black drum (diminishing numbers as the annual run is about at its end), flounder returning to the bays, speckled trout in their spring run (surf, jetties and bay) and incidental catches like pompano in the surf.

    Are you boating or boatless?

Im boatless, and im mostly fishing for redfish, specks and flounder. I have never caught a pompano before. Im really just wondering what kind of bait to use for this time of year? And which would be better to fish the bay or surf? or both? Also if you know of any good spots in the bay i could try?
