If you feel that strongly about the smoking issue you have the ability to no longer support their economy and move to a state that shares the same views as you.
Thanks, but I don't need your help defining what my responsibilities are as a parent.
I am a taxpayer in the state of NC therefore If I want the state to ban smoking then I am entitled to my opinion without having to move away. I come from a long line of tobacco farmers and I understand the money it brings to the state and frankly, I don't give a shit.

Well that about sums everything up. Its about you and no one else. I don't share your opinion on this matter nor do I expect you to share mine. But if some one wants to smoke 8 packs of cigs a day they should be allowed to do so. If a business owner wishes to cater to that crowd of people they should have that option. You have the option of not supporting that business. If big brother steps in and tells me what, where, and when I can and can't do something, we start running out of options and we all lose.

Frankly I DO give a shit.

Personally, I take the global warming thing pretty seriously. Although it cannot be proved that warming is 100% man-made, it also cannot be definitively ruled out. From my perspective, the conservative approach is to assume it is happening and clean up our act.

One thing to consider. The gulf stream is at risk as the Arctic ice melts. The GS is actually pushed by a current that originates with cold, salty water sinking in the far North Atlantic, running south along the Atlantic floor forcing the gulf stream back up (I know I dont have this exactly right, but that is the principle). Historically, the Gulf Stream has shut down in historical periods of climate change. The last couple years with no eddies pushing in close have had me wondering. No gulf stream and dogfish will rule everywhere.

Not to mention I spend my winters snowboarding in VT and elsewhere.

Personally, I would really like to see cleaner and renewable technologies. A biodiesel IPS-drive composite boat appeals to me. I just switched my VT house over to a wood gassification boiler for heat so I am 100% renewable there. My wife's next car will be hybrid, I know it doesnt save much now but it drives R&D in hybrid drivetrains which will eventually become all electric.

And from my perspective, anyone who politicizes this issue is acting like a jerk. It shouldn't be political. There are many solutions we could be acting on now if our leaders and special interests were not all using them to score points and spread fear. One example, we could be sequestering carbon from coal plants for 10-20% of the energy produced which would still make coal far cheaper than oil, and we have 1000 years + of it in the US. Or what about nuclear? And what is the worst thing that could happen if we tried to solve the energy problem? Granted there will be some waste and dead ends, but it would bring good construction and manufacturing jobs to this country, something most people agree we need. I hate to make the comparison to the New Deal, but we could use something like that. Too bad it probably won't happen in my lifetime because our 'leaders' are going to spend their time bickering over the definition of the word marriage while every other 1st world country develops the technologies we wil lthen have to buy.
