    Garmin GPS/Chartplotter 2006.

My brother-in-law just replaced a Garmin 2006GPS with the new 3006 that has A/V connections. The customer wants $400 for the old one with everything except the GSD 20 Remote sounder (I can get one for $216) and the transducer ($56). Anybody have any experience with these, and what are your thoughts. No bluechart chip either. The unit is a 2004 model.

I have had two of these units, very nice and will give you all the info you can ever ask for.
The GSD-20 is a average FF, not as good as the newer digitals by the other manufactures. I use mine from 10'-800' with no issues.

    400 is a good price.

I have the 2010C and it's great. But I use it strictly as a plotter/GPS no FF built in. I'm a beliver in separate unit for separate duties and I think you would loose a lot of chart detail, especially tith the 2060 if you have to devote 1/2 the screen to other functions.

I think the finder will be used when the GPS gets me there, then the finder to find the structure. I can go to full screen plotter which is cool. The only problem I have now is that I would have to put it in the center of my console and eliminate my compass. But if I do that I will have no centerline to mount the compass.
