    Garage Floor Paint

I'm looking to paint the garage floor, was thinking epoxy. I understand I need to clean, etch, prime then paint.

Anybody ever do this before? Product recommendations? The concrete was previously stained, will this hurt adhesion?

Help me get this right the first time, thanks

one thing i have seen.....radial tires have tremendous power when they turn and you'r sitting still. i have seen the tires "rip" the paint off the floor. i decided not to do it after seeing that. actually, i always wanted a tile floor in my garage. big 24 inch tiles. park the ferrari right on it.

doug i will look tonight when i get home, i think i may still have a can laying around. i still get hot patch peeling on it, though i did a second coat the following year, and its holding up superb, i honestly believe you need to do one coat, wait a year, acid was again, then another coat, that was 3 years ago, and my floor looks good.

Quick Crete makes a epoxy kit they sell at Lowe's, Sherwin Williams also sell an epoxy kit. I think they are all about the same. But you need to find out what is on your floor now, water base or xylene base stain and follow manf. specs. for preparation. You may not be able to put epoxy over your existing floor and get proper adhesion. And it will only bond as good as what is already there.

The real secret to a good floor finish, is don't get on it for 2 weeks.

    LOL

Good stuff, thanks for the tip. Of course, he had an "epoxy coatings specialist" with special shoes. All I have is Capt. Daley

They had 2 tutorials in there, neither one primed.

Problem with garages and epoxy is moisture coming up through the slab. There is rarely a vapor barrier under the concrete in a garage and if moisture comes up through the concrete which is very common, the epoxy will bubble or pop up. try this- duct tape a rubber mat or 2'x2'piece of plastic to the floor. make sure you tape all the way around. let it sit overnight and pull it up. if you see a lot of condensation- don't use epoxy.
If you do use epoxy, make sure the floor is EXTREMELY clean. At the very least pressure wash. I'll help you as much as I can if you want some more info
