    Front Bumper Rod Racks

Well, the Hoochie Momma has been sold and Mrs. BrothaBob and I are going boatless for a season. We decided to suck it up, pay off some debt to free up some room to buy a boat we really want and actually have some money to run it for the Tuna.....

So this coming summer I will be primarily surf fishing unless I can hitch a ride here or there.....

I am going to need to construct a front bumper rod holder for the beast ('88 F150). Anyone have any pictures of ones they put together using PVC, whatever, let me see them so I can be a copy cat off of one of the designs....Thanks!

Never understood the front bumper thing... If it's a pickup (without a camper shell) why not the use the inside of the bed? I have seen some pretty trick bed configurations that look like the finest t-top on CC's. It keeps the rods high, keeps the reels protected from the bugs, road debris, etc... Plus, once we set-up, the reels are right there if you deside to take a little nap between beers.

I know you tarheels like the front bumber, but down here, when we make the beach runs down to PINS for some shark fishing, we sometimes have to traverse some nasty washes and soft sand for 40-80 miles... never cared to have my surf outfits taking the blunt of the splashes of sandwater, bugs and the like.
    just a thought.

Piece of 2x8 the size of the bumper. Get 2inch PVC and cut it in 14-16 inch pieces. (or whatever size you want) Get some U-clamps or bolts and attach the PVC to the wood. If you use clamps I would reccomend liquid nail on the clamp and then put the PVC on it before bolting. Then attach the 2x8 to the bumper with some 3/4 inch stainless bolts and nuts. I used 3 inch long bolts for mine.

I have made a similar one to this. Except I mounted it to my truck box. I didn't like the idea of having my rods in my line of sight while driving. I used the same set up, except I used stainless steel wood screws and screwed them into the PVC and into the wood. I've had it for nine years and it has yet to fail. (knock on wood)

    Thanks!

The reason I want the front bumper mount is because the bed of the truck is always full of fish.......LOL......or tools.....ok......mostly tools.

I have a setup for smaller rods (less than 7') for inside the bed cap that works great but my surf rods are a bit too tall.

I want to be able to drive up to the beach and throw it out and not waste time setting everything up. I can do that at night sitting around a camp fire.

That's a steal--- you would have to pay close to $200 for a professional all aluminum fully annodized 6 rod rack, but then you wouldn't get the PVC or aluminum bolts.
