Friday Rant... People who "Know" me

Almost all of my rants are written in fun... Day to day shit that gets a little colorful display for the purpose of amusing others. Even this topic has had fun moments in my life... Catching people out on "knowing" me has happened along the way.
I had a young kid explain wanting to mate for a shark tourney how he knows this guy "Cameron" and he taught him all the ins and outs of mako fishing and that he mated for him for years. I played the game for a while before dropping the bomb...
Had another guy on board for a tournament keep referring to a billfish article that he read once and that I was doing it all wrong. I asked him if he knew the guy who wrote it. He answered yes and that he was friends with him... The author was me...
Then we get to the other kind. Malicious sorts. Ones who claim to have known me for years and tell tales of misdeeds I have done. This fshing world is small and shit has a way of rolling all the way back to the source. In this case me.
Now I have publicised openly that for years I had a problem with a bottle. When I hear that somebody knew me as a drunk though flags go up. Seldom did I ever drink in public. Usually it was me and a bottle of bacardi in some dark lonely place. I was an introvert. If I did drink out it was with a very small select group also of fishermen. Some claim to have been part of that circle but that don't hold water. See... Most of my drinking buddies are dead. Long agao. Many before I quit and most of the rest after.
Was I an asshole drinking? To myself, yes... To others no except to be snobbish and not talk to anyone... So when you hear somebody knew me "when" feel free to say "Bullshit".
Like many on this site others have followed from other sites to do nothing but stir controversy. Some people can't be happy unless they hide behind screen names and take cheap foundless pot shots.
I've heard from more than one friend of encounters with people like these. A story circulates... I posted a previous pic on another site saying it was from a recent trip. 100% true! But they fail to finish the story. My pics are stored in thumbnails ninety per page. Pretty small to be reading. I knew the shot had four guys working the corner. I had clicked on the thumbnail from the page above and up it went. "Oh Deep's full of shit !!! see!!!" Five minutes later I found the right one and posted it up. Similar but clearly the current shot. They leave that part out in their tales though.
I heard another... "I know six guys that fished a tournament with him and never will again..." Funny enough, I regularly fish with most every one I have ever tournament fished with and have for the last 30 years...Better yet I don't fish six guy teams. One boat out there that I would never fish again but thats my choice with good reason and a few of you know the story there. I could see a charter client or two pissed for not catching and not comming back. I could see a couple pissed cause I have been known to be just a tad grumpy when things aren't right. Tournament people though? Nah...
So if someone tells you they "Know" stuff.... Ask detailed questions then ask me... Take it a step further... Take that same position any time you hear somebody slamming another. Get both sides. Makes for a better world that way...

Sounds like good advice. Never form an opinion of someone based on someone else's experience. Everybody reacts differently to different people. the person you consider the biggest Ahole might be my best friend.
As for your tournament behaviour, Hope to find out for myself in a few weeks.
