Post this over on Box's forum. Quite a few firearms experts over there.
Is it an old flintlock shotgun? If so the London marking would most likely refer to a London Damascus or London Twist barrel. Most likely a valuable piece.
Did some more thinking and it maybe a Samuel and Charles Smith they were produced in London early 1800's I believe they are marked "smith, london", it should have a damascus barrel and can be very valuable. I'll give you $100 for it.
Post pics of the gun with the markings visible and Ill see if I can help more.
Ive seen Smiths sell for 45K

Being a flintlock you would have to shoot blackpowder, but in agreement you dont know what charge it was meant to fire you can blow out a Damascus barrel very easily. I wouldnt shoot any firearm of that age or possible value without knowing exactly what you are doing, and not knowing what it is means you dont know what to shoot(not that I think you would or you wouldnt have asked for info) Post some pics Id like to see it.
I would take it to a gun smith & tell him up front you dont want to sale but want info about it.
Thanks gang gonna take some pic tonight and will post them.I would never try to shoot it.Just trying to get some history on it for her.
