    7.3 or 6.0
now if it is a 6.0, I fell your pain but dont blame FoMoCo as they didn't make that engine either, it's still an I-Nat
also the EGR problems, they can come from using poor quality fuel or not servicing the coolant system as often as needed and also from electrolsis, also due to an improperly maintained coolant system....

that sucks. I have heard of a few wierd issues with the early 6.0 Dont know why they ever went away from the 7.3

i have had several 7.3's and currently only have 125k on an 01. we used to get 500k out of our fleet fords when i owned an excavation company and they were all 7.3

    sorry for the bad luck

the reason Ford went away wth the 7.3 was because it could not meet currant emission standards for diesel engins, put in place by congress, so blame the dems on that one

so, the better eco-friendly 6.0 was brought out but only because International couldn't have the 6.4 engine ready in time so FoMoCo had to "bite the bullitt" and use the 6.0 for awhile untill I-Nat could finish up the 6.4, so again it was Internationals fault for dragging there butts on new engine development

also there has been so much bad-blood between I-Nat and Ford lately from the warranty issues wth the 6.0 and 6.4 that I hear FoMoCo will be using there own Cummings Diesel (which Ford owns) in the near future, leaving Dodge to find another engine supplier

sounds like a cam position sensor problem to me....there is a revised part that should solve this problem, part # is 8C3Z-12K072-A, I have one in stock that I'll sell to you at my cost, which is $26.96 (+ s&h) if you like

i feel your paint.. i got 2 f450 and 2 f550 tow trucks from 01-07 as of current and they have the 6.0 and i am trading them in two for one.. i can not handle them anymore.. i have had more problems with that motor than i could ever explain.. i put 6 new cylinders in one of my trucks and the other a brand new turbo and new motor in another.. i would say i am about 100k in repairs on these trucks in 5 years and that is a sin.. they only got around 150k miles on them and they are driven hard but come on now...

ford covers only so much and i am in desperate need i went back to japs and started back with my isuzu... i am a big ud nissan fan for my roll backs but as of now i got these pos ford wheel lifts and one isuzu.... nothing but problems with the fords and i will never buy another ford truck again because of that....

the power is good and everything but they just dont last long like they used to.. the 7.3 was a kick azz machine and i only wish i bought my fords with them but the 6.0 are way to advanced atleast that is for anyone around here to diagnose fast and repair quickly... every time my truck goes in it is atleast a week before anything can even get semi done..

I have the 6.0 which I love so far but it doesn't have the miles you have. I think the first thing I would do is bypass or remove the EGR cooler. I am pretty sure that can be done.

I did put a tuner in mine but not with the intent to run the crap out of it. It dramatically increased the power but I am under the impression it disables the EGR.

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

sorry you have had such issues with your 6.0, but I will say something. NEVER buy the first year of a new motor. they havent worked all the bugs out yet, and the only way for them to place recalls is for shit to start breaking. it sucks that they stopped using the 7.3, its a beast. I opted for it in my 03 f-250 as opposed to the 6.0 and couldnt be happier. i"d rather make less power out of a bigger motor then a smaller, hopped up motor. de-tuned motors turn less RPMs, and help the motor last longer. I dont know if I would go trying to block off the EGR valve on a diesel. It can work on earlier EFI gassers, but I dont know what effect it would have on the diesel PCM and computer systems
