    flat screen LCD tvs

looking for any feedback you guys have on LCD's. been looking at some 47-52" samsung, viseo and phillips. LG is also on the maybe list. im looking to spend in the neighborhood of 2K-give or take- samsung 46" is at the top of my list right now. what do you guys have and how do you like them??? PS- my current sony 35" is about 20 years young and still going pretty strong but my son has convinced me since the super bowl that there are now black lines going across the screen that the old lady doesnt see. every time i watch it they look worse to me! thanx in advance for any comments- MO

You're going to save on electrical power also I think, even if you go from your 35" tube/CRT/projection TV to 52" LCD TV

    Samsung

    Hey Miles,
I just upgraded the shop TV to a 40" Samsung. Very stoked on it. I went all out and got the 1080p, even though I probably won't use my LCD to its full potential. High def signals come in 720p so unless you are going to get a blue ray or some ps3 or something the 1080p aint going to be used.

One thing that pissed me off when I got mine hooked up is the fact that I have Direct TV and they don't broadcast local channels in HD, NBC FOX........ (in my area, same with VA beach)...........My buddy has cable and he gets the local channels in HD......so unfortunatly the super bowl looked way less cool than it should of on my LCD........

The bonus with the samsung is you get a rebate for a $100 gift certificate to the NFLshop.com.......samsung the official TV of the NFL........Eric

Craig, I'm no expert by any means. I have bought a 55" and a 42" HD tv and they are both good TV's. I think if I were you I would go ahead and make sure the unit was 1080p (not 1080i) capable. Sure, nothing is available today to watch in 1080p, but in a couple years I bet it will be.--- yada, yada, yada--- same mess I'm sure you've heard.
Each to their own--- I've always been a Buick kind of consumer. Don't need the Cadilac, but don't want the Chevy either--- if nothing else, the Buick gives me piece of mind.
I think any name brand will give you years of good service. You can't go wrong with a Sony, Samsung, Panisonic. Hitachi, etc.. Again, I don't know my ass from a whole in the ground about electronics but I trust these name brands and consider (right or wrong) Viseo, LG, and other discount names more like a Hyundai.

I read the above and have to jump in I own a commercial AV house and I have to tell you that I have sold over 5,000 LG units including over 700 displays installed in Citizens bank park alone. The ae work horses. Samsung also a great unit. Someone above mentioned 1080p DO NOT buy a unit that is a lower resolution within 2 years you will regret it. I am not going to tell you what to buy But I only sell LG,Samsung and Panisonic and they all will treat you well. check the resolution all manufacturers have lower and higher end lines. its all about the resolution and contrast ratio. Have fun

Told ya I didn't know my ass from a hole in the ground--- Ok, a Kia then
Seriously, thanks. No doubt my perception of the LG's is from their cheap cellular phones. Yea, I understand they have some popular models with the kids but still poor quality. On the other hand, I remember when Samsung was a Cheap monitor manufacturer as a cheap alternative to IBM. It took Samsung a good while to overcome it's early perceptions, but overcome this they have.

I have a 47 inch LG, 1080p and 8,000 to 1 contrast ratio and I absolutely love it! The picture is amazing. I paid 1499.00 (originally 2k) for it during a sale right before Thanksgiving at Circuit City. I also bought it in NH and avoided sales tax

    I have this one:

Contrast is more important with the LCDs (ability to make black)

If you go with a plasma you don't have to worried about the contrast as much because the have an easier time making black.
    .
I like the LCDs cause they don't have a glass screen, so they don't reflect light off the front of the screen. Its always annoying seeing a light bulb glare or reflection on the screen.
