Fishing with torn ACL & Meniscus?

    Opinions needed....

I recently tore my ACL and Meniscus in my left knee. Surgery will be in a couple weeks...

Doctor has said not to do any of the activities I enjoy, including fishing/boating - not now or later... for atleast six months.

Looking to see if anyone has ever fished offshore with a torn ACL & meniscus. What actions have the most potential for further injury?

For those that do not know... My knee should not be moving left or right and NO load bearing pressure on the left leg.

I do not plan on fishing because I respect the doctor, but just curious if anyone has been in this situation

I blew out my ACL 2 years ago playing lacrosse.

No problem fishing the rest of the season and then had surgery in October.

My ortho told me it was already blown up, and I couldn't hurt it any worse, so as long as I wore a brace for lateral stability I would be fine.

I also rehabbed my a*s off before surgery so the recovery would be quicker.

Good luck - the surgery isn't much fun.

Tiger Woods won 4 Majors with a torn ACL - the last one with a broken leg too...

Doc told me to stay off so I do not tear meniscus any further before surgery and after surgery it has a better chance of healing without doing to activities I enjoy.

I wish this would have happened in college or high school so I could heal quicker... Not that old, but at 32 and not in shape like I was... the healing will be a real chore. Trying now to build up the quads so recovery will hopefully go smoother.

did my rite knee playing lacrosse soph year of college.

ACL, MCL, Meniscus, and a fractured Femur.
I was in the gym everyday getting it ready for surgery and I was on the boat every fishable day before and after. (If I wasnt rehabbing). I was the designated angler for all rods on the right side. Prop your leg up on the gunnel and youll be all set.

Meniscus is the "shock absorber" for your entire body. Unless you are in glass smooth waters or in a big boat, I do not think bouncing around in a CC at speed through 3 footers is a good idea. Feel for ya bro! I've had 12 knee surgeries and have zero cartilage left in one knee... rough conditions don't feel too go (but the SeaShocks mat is a lifesaver). The ACL is lateral movement... move laterally and you'll be in PAIN and drop due to lack of support. That "little twist" can and most likely will tear the Meniscus even more.

The quads and hamstrings need to be worked (don't focus just on the quads). Afterwards, stationary bike, ice, leg lifts, extensions, hammy curls, more bike, more ice.... then ice some more!

I tore my ACL during Lacrosse season, I got a carbon fiber knee brace custom fitted to my knee and I was able to finish out the season....but I was much slower.

master the art of the straight leg dead-lift, dont be afraid of the weight, and you will never need a brace again. physiology of the human body will never allow your hamstring to out grow your quad, and the hamstring is the most important muscle in terms of controlling the motion of your knee. least thats how all the nice nurses/ personal trainers explained it to me.
