This is funny. The man mentions "out of the country" and "someplace warm" and gives Maderia as an example, and he gets the entire chamber of commerce from the great state of North Carolina back at him.

It actually does my old heart good to see southern state pride and loyalty. I'm a Texan. We understand that.

    Go to the D.R.

Beaches in the Dominican Rep. are great and the fishing is super. Plus it is fairly inexpensive. I love it there and the Marlin fishing is very close to the beach. No 3 hour runs to the fish. Have fun.

having thought about this for a few days, I think I would go to the D.R. too. Of course, that's only 150 miles from here.

Or maybe, just maybe, I would say to hell with the US government telling me where in the world I can visit, and go to Cuba.

Which I plan to do anyway.

    Gringo,

One thing I can say is for those of us who live in NC we are proud of what our state has to offer. That is probably the reason so many people are relocating here. I live in the middle of the state so for me a 2 1/2 hour drive I can be at the beach or the mountains. In response to Coldwaters original request for places outside of the country I would vote for Quepos Costa Rica.

I am glad to see it. When I moved from Texas up to the Northeast, I noticed early on that people from Massachusetts just did not seem to have the same feeling about their state that I had about Texas. And my pride in Texas was not unusual. I grew up surrounded by that.

I didn't see that pride from people from New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut. now, the PA people tended to be a bit of a tribe, mostly Steeler fans, but nothing like Native Texans.

I don't see it from Californians, or people from New Mexico, or Arkansas...

I still think Texans are by far and away the most rabid of the type. But I have seen some pretty good coonasses from Louisiana, and a few Okies who would defend their home. So I am happy to see NC is one of us.

I know this is probably a dumb question, but thinking of all the possibilities, have you already been to Hawaii?

    Cabo San Lucas. Mexico?

If you want to go south of the border CABO has it all, no doubt about it. 5 Star lodging, dining, great fishing year round.
Book the trip, have a great time, post some photos. Glad to know there are a few Native Texans floatin around out there livin the good life. Long live the Republic
