    First Custom made Knife

I ordered a knife and sheath making kit and it arrived Friday...just in time for a chilly South Florida weekend staying home...it got down to 60 deg. one night, and I just stayed home and crafted this knife from a wood block and put 10 coats of Tru-oil left over from a gunstock I refinished...the whole kit was about $40 from www.rayjardine.com

I was impressed in the quality of the material provided, and the amount of supplies included. It was hard not to use power tools, but I tried to make this in the spirit of the mountain man...only used a sharp knife, a few files and some sandpaper (included)..

Try one for yourself...it was a blast and not to expensive for a weekend project...and making the leather sheath was really great.I made a few mistakes, which you can see from the photo, but still not so bad for my first time working with leather...I just went on to order from an online leather goods company some leather and other materialsto make a few new sheaths for my fillet and butcher knives...

Nice knife KAHI! When I was young my Dad and I made one out the chisel point off an old farm implement. The piece was carbon steel and had a blued color to it once we ground her down. It was easily sharpened to a razor edge. Then put an antler base as a handle. Havent seen it in years. Im sure its in the attic or somewhere. Maybe I can locate it and post it up here too.
