Well after three very long weekends, I passed all my tests on the first shot and now need to get first aid and CPR certified then i am off to Baltimore to apply for my 6pak License.
If anyone in the Maryland area is thinking of taking the course I highly recommend 3B's Captain School. The material that they provide you with is outstanding. They cover all the material very well and find ways to help you learn the material easily. Well worth the price of the class.
Congrats, Capt. I also attended 3B's for OUPV(six-pack,) Master, and Towing Endorsement. You didn't mention these requirements, but I'm sure you're aware:
1) Small vessel sea service forms completed and notarized.
2) Fingerprints
3) Physical
4) Enroll in random drug-testing program
5) Proof of citizenship (original birth certificate or passport.)
You absolutely MUST cross all t's and dot all i's! The USCG doesn't let anything slide and they don't negotiate. (On my physical form, The Dr. filled out all the numbers for my hearing, but neglected to check the box labelled "NORMAL." Even though the numbers were obviously all in the normal range for hearing, the USCG kicked out my application, required me to get another appointment with Dr., and have him check the box, re-sign and re-date the form.)
After complying with requirements for initial OUPV license, the Master upgrade is a day at the beach (if you have the sea time.) Well worth the effort. Good luck, OUTCAST.
