It’s a great feeling passing that test !! Anyone thinking about it … good knowledge to have !!
I did hear through the school I got my license with that the CG …(Federal government)…. changed how the fingerprinting is done (amongst other things). Just on 01/13/06
No longer can you get the USCG/FBI fingerprint cards and go to your local Police station and have them print you. It needs to be done at the REC, and is done when you do the oath …not that big of a deal … just a change. The thing that it did affect was you use to be able to go to other units like a safety unit ( and from what I understand even some stations) and have them swear you in. Looks like that also means you cannot mail in your paperwork for renewals …. Up here its NY, Boston, Baltimore ….don’t know the others.

Does anyone know what the time restriction is on your physical? I was thinking of nailing this down before starting the course but I don't want to do that and find out it has to be within xx days of applying.

As I recall it has to be less than a year from the date you are issued your license. Drug testing is 6 months from date applying for license.
Also need a First Aid card valid within a year and the CPR card too.

The school I went to offered physicals and drug testing for additional fee's ..it seemed expensive but in hindsight it would have been worth it !!
