Fillin' Up
I have a 200 hp Yamaha 4 stroke. Are there any pros and cons on filling up at the docks vs. on land at a gas station besides price. i.e. are there additives in the gas on land that clog fuel filters etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
I run a suzuki 225 4 stroke and put fuel in it (87) 90% of the time from the pump at the filling station. Only a few times at the pump at the marinas. Never had any trouble with either. The fuel at the pump (not marina) may have a color additive for road tax use. When it comes time to service your motor make sure you use a 10 micron filter. It will take care of any problems with the new blended fuels. I am not sure if these types of fuel have hit NC yet or not. I always put some type of stabilizer in my tank at least 2x a year and always a 3/4 to full tank over the winter with stabilizer.

I have the same motor. I usually fill up at the highway station on the way to launch. Prices of fuel seem abit cheaper on the highway vs marina pump docks around here

DO WHAT??
If you can fill up @ a land station your gonna save quit a bit of money, and most boat motors are built to run on 87 octane,so why fill up @ the marina which only sales 89 or higher octane.I have a 200 Yammie that has a chit load of hrs. on it and have only run 87 octane since I've had it but I do run ringfree with it about every other tank and add fuel stabilizeer during the winter,I do use the boat in winter just not as frequent, and no problems yet.(probably shouldn't have mentioned that) NO JINX,NO JINX
I think one thing is key is good boat maintenence every yr. keep up on the maintience on the motor and it will do you right.Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the replies...I also prefer to fill up on land. I know there is an additive that many docks put in diesel and wanted to see if I was doing something wrong.

I beleive the only thing they add to diesel at the marina's is dye, diesel fuel used in boats and off road equipment you dont have to pay road tax on. Just dont get caught with dyed fuel in your truck.

Crab mustard is good
we just looked into getting gas at our dock. It is the exact same thing you would put in your car. We were looking for a fuel where we wouldn't be able to sell it to vehicles but our gas guy said nothing like this existed. The only additive in marine diesel is a pink dye. They do this so it will stain your filters if used in highway applications. So they can slap you with a huge fine plus backcharge you for all road taxes that you didnt pay. To get the road tax off of gas you have to take that off at the end of the year when you are doing your taxes.
