Taurus, Thanks for posting. That rocket shot is really cool.
Also in the fish pic half way up the line on the inside is that a fin with an outline under it. Looks to be something there but not sure. Thanks

that's a sablefish...what is commonly called 'black cod' ....excellent smoked..the vertical gangions are best for fishing the 'snags' that blackgill hang out at..there are always a few black cod in the mix..we use different gear when targeting black cod....it sits on the bottom and is about 3 miles long with a hook every fathom

So what size are those fish, must be right big of there is a hook every fathom, I'm also guessing that it is deep water, kinda reminds me of when we Snowy fished, they would float to the top as we brought the line up. Very cool shots.
    MirrOlure when big fish count!

we were targeting blackgill rockfish with the vertical gear in that shot...those hooks are 18 inches apart....when targeting black cod, we use horizontal gear that lays on the bottom with hooks every fathom(snap gear).

those blackgill averaged 2 1/2 pounds each...we get around $2 per pound whole.

as you can see in the first pic, we're fishing a snag at a bit over 200 fathoms.
