I guess it's possible, but IMHO the businesses that employ illegals are mostly small, I don't see big businesses hiring them. Certainly a co. like GM isn't going to do it, nor will the unions put up with that nonsense. That being said, if you can explain to me how small businesses have this kind of leverage with politicians please let me know how to do it. I can't even afford to bribe the local politicians, let alone federal ones. Something still doesn't add up.

Well, here in Florida our number one business is Tourism and every hotel seems to have Spanish speaking maids and every restaurant's kitchen staff all seem to speak Spanish. Our number two business is agriculture and I have never seen anyone but Hispanics picking those oranges or tomatoes or strawberry's. With construction I have never seen a sheet rock crew here that was not Hispanic as were the stucco crews and the roofing crews and the painting crews and the concrete block layers and the framers (the plumbers and electricians all seem to be white guys though). Even the workers who installed all the Verizon high speed optic cable lines were all Hispanic via a sub.

So do you think all those farm owners and those hotel owners and those restaurant owners and those general contractors are Democrats? I don't.

Big business wants the undocumented workers here too. Check out this article from Business Week

Big hotel chains and agribusiness may have that kind of political pull. Individual farmers, building contractors, local restaurants and tradesmen don't. Still doesn't seem like enough to make an entire political party play dead.

And BTW, you're assuming all those people are illegals because they're Hispanic.... kinda racist isn't it?

Re: the businessweek article. Okay, as a potential market, now it makes some sense. If Walmart can make $$$ selling the American dream to illegals and hire the Chinese to supply it, now I can see where the money trail leads. Too bad that these people can't see that they'll never accomplish that dream with the Walmarts of the world outsourcing everything overseas. Maybe they'd do better to look for work in China.

A tamper proof national ID card would also go a long way to stop illegal hiring. Why do you think it is mostly the Repubs who are opposed. Check out this video

Ah yes, Chris Matthews... a boil on the @$$ of journalism.

The ID idea has a place, but the devil is in the details. I think the fear is that a country that was founded on a basic distrust of government and government power could be turned into a gestapo "Your papers please" kind of place. Most people wouldn't and shouldn't support a mandatory national ID.

However, a tamper-proof Social Security card... Boy would that solve a ton of problems. And while we're at it how about we keep anybody but tax authorities from using that number for anything.

    Its real simple,

This is an E-mail I got. We all have our hero's and our point of view but the real problem is govt and our need to have our bottoms wiped.
Read this slowly, let it sink in, VOTE in November

    > One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.
    >
    > I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.
    >
    > I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.
    >
    > Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
    >
    > What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits.... . The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.
    >
    > The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.
    >
    > It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace
    > 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.
    >
    > If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.
    >
    > If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red ...
    >
    > If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ , it's because they want them in IRAQ . If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.
    >
    > There are no insoluble government problems.
    >
    > Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

    Dont forget,

they also invented, blacks in the back of the bus, white and black water fountains, segregation, slavery, Civil rights [why do we need that? just read the constitution] Low income housing, Immagration laws..........oh boy, I cant wait to vote.
They dont plan on fixing anything, get used to it. After 80 years of this type of logic its easy to see why people say, "Im ready to just die!" Theres a time and place for everything. And with the new age of TV and computers they are feeding us at least 10 different versions of nonsense all day long.
Maybe I need to just go buy a boat and piss it all away. The future sucks, and it aint my problem.

Is the Excise Tax on fishing equipment, building, assembly, rod building etc etc...in there..cuz it's 10% of whatever we do..just in case you didn't know...WHACK..10% RIGHT OFF THE TOP...AND THEY DON'T LIKE PEOPLE WHO DON'T PAY IT...SO IF YOU THINK YOUR LITTLE CHINESE TRADE OR EBAY BUSINESS IS SAFE..FORGET ABOUT IT.

One of the smartest things we did, day 1, was call the Excise Tax guy and have him come out and look at our operation to grant us the exemption entitled to all Excise Tax Payers who actually pay the tax quarterly. Bust a nut, if he didn't drive 27 miles to check us out 3 years ago and man they looked up and white glove checked every single scupper for scales.

We do things right..always have ..always will..Go USA 100%.

Quick Story...must have been about 3 or 4 years ago..our team and boat ready to head to the canyons with some solid fishing guests for an overnighter. Invited by the cappy...one guy shows up 5 am with bags of lures and spreader bars to bring on the trip...Cappy looks them over and says.."where did you get those"?..Answer..ebay and some discount tackle supply places..Reply, "You can come along but that junk stays at the dock, your choice, we don't fish with foreign made ...(and here is the kicker) taking a job away from my American brothers crap". "Comprendie"?...well the fellow looked at him like he was from Mars and said.."Why do you care where it's made?"..Cappy replied, because it's my boat and those are the rules" ..you want to fish or argue over why we have to travel 25 miles to get good tackle?"..."and by the way if you even utter one more word, your truck is still warm".
