A fathers trip!

So for my fathers birthday i promised him a trip of a lifetime? i physically wrote him an I.O.U that he has to throw overboard when i fullfill the debt.

So the question is..If your daughter was giving you the trip of a lifetime for you two to do together what would it be?...where would you go?...what would you target?...Come on guys i know alot of you are fathers and i spent many years when i was younger fishing with my dad....NOW i need to make up for lost time. I grew up Catching flounders, blues, stripers...sand sharks(ha), but when i got older i found a whole world i never imagined, my dad never really got to see what i saw.

I need your thoughts, and ideas.

First of all that is the coolest thing I've ever heard. That's going to be one special trip. If you're in Jersey, I would think that a canyon trip would do the trick pretty well- between the troll bight and the night chunk/swordfish it's hard to beat. If that has been done and you want to go a step further, it must only be a couple hour flight to bermuda from there and you could go after some big ass marlin. If you want to do it right away, the giant bite in NC is hammering right now. Good luck, and let us know what you decide to do!

Thumbs up Fish of a lifetime

OK! A couple of questions. Is he an experienced angler? Do you want to make a day, days, or week trip? Is the thrill in the hunt or the catch? I know it seems simple, but I was in the White Marlin with a guy, and he took his father along shortly after he had a minor stroke. He missed on a pretty good fish, and I can't help believe that the sting of that lingered a lot longer than the thrill of hooking up in the first place. Not trying to bring you down, just want to make sure you get the desired result !!!!!!

Dreams are for the dreamer.... I can't honestly answer what another man's dream would be. I think you need to ask him. I wish you the greatest luck with the endeavor, and I hope you can fullfill his dream, and maybe one of your own while you're at it!

my dad loves the water and was the one who influenced me to do what im doing now... but he hasnt had the opportunity to experience the all of the stuff that i have now. i wanna get him out to cow town for a week and latch him on to something absolutely monster just to watch him suffer. he seems to think all fish fight like a stripahhhh (47lber, biggest fish hes caught).... cruel and unusual punishment is what comes to mind.

Yes ... Indeed. There is no way to prepare someone for what that feels like. I felt like the biggest puss when I moved down here and went out with my father in law to the big rock for the first time. I had caught just about every striper and bluefish in L.I. sound but man was I in for it.

Needless to say, thay all about fell to the deck laughing at the muscle head yankee when I struggled reeling in my first fish over 50 lbs. I remember them hollaring "sorry that reel doesnt have a third gear for ya!"

That was just the beginning of the initiation.

Probably a weekend, my dad did alot of fishing with his father many many years ago. Grandfather actually won the A.C tournament back in the day for largest bluefin....He is experienced but not professional. and he had shoulder surgery about a year ago.

i was thinkin Florida. Cobia in march.
or. Charleston (since i am familiar) but he's never gone on an overnighter in the canyons up here...ahh. there is so many options. He would never forget a swordfish! i know i dont.

What a great present!

A canyon overnighter should be on the list of every offshore fisherman. Might be a little "too much" fishing though in this case, if it was me I would like some down time to spend with my daughter.

How about florida keys in the spring? If you time it right, you could do sails, cobia and permit along the reef one day, and tarpon under the bridges or on the flats the next. And some good eats and relaxation between.

Another option is coastal north carolina, plenty of offshore variety throughout the year

Good luck and let us know what you decide
