Exhaust question

we are running twin 8 inch exhaust on a single 8v92 it is loud as heck. Installed is the Centek mufflers anyone ever had any experience with any other brand or what can I do to quieten this thing down?

Try posting your question up on boatdiesel.com ....... BTW I have 671's and they are LOUD as well....I've heard that DD's are typically louder than other diesels...I'm sure there's something that can be done....but cost may be another issue...

Nothing sounds better than a Detroit Diesel firing up in the morning, no matter how loud it is. A loud Detroit just calls the fish in from longer distances away.

That aside, I'm not sure what you can do. I think I have vernatone mufflers on mine, and they keep the noise pretty reasonable.

We had 6v92s in a 42 Bertram, I don’t know what type of mufflers they are but they were fairly quiet. We drilled them out when we put the new engines in. We also got rid of the old insulation in the engine room and replaced that with sound down. That made a huge difference in the salon, we can talk in there now without yelling. I just ordered new carpet padding from them for under the carpet.

I have the venatones on her now but about the 5th day in a row it gets loud!

I can try to find out what they are for you, I do know they are the stock bertram mufflers. A friend of mine runs a 44 henriques with 6v92s and said our boat was a lot quiter then that.
