Encirclement of Russia...bad idea.
It was inevitable with both Conservative and Progressive Administrations continuing the encirclement of Russia that they would ultimately react in the same fashion they have always reacted all the way from pre-historical times:

Russian remains the only existential threat to America. Diminished? Yes. But extremely dangerous, like a cournered 8 ft. Western Diamondback rattler. Russian remains the only country on the earth that could at the click of a button demolish America. Best to leave it alone.
But I read the other day that even members of the Democratic caucus in Congress are arguing for war with Iran, at least, so as to cause the rally around the flag mob mentality that followed 9/11 so as to secure the November elections for the Dems. Hey, it worked for Bush, the worst president in modern history, get himself and his party re-elected in 2004. Why not for Obama;s ragtag bunch of nincompoops.?
It's rumored that Iran and Russia have a mutual-defence pact (not a treaty as some have said). But will Russia actually come to the aid of Iran in the case of such an attack. Don't know. But their encirclement by NATO may cause them to assess that a low level military response to an Iran attack by the U.S. and Israel is just the easy pickin's they need to put the U.S. back it's box...just like they did in Georgia.
Which brings up another question, why did Bush, the most famous war-monger of all times other than Hitler, not send the U.S. Air Force and Navy, both underutilized in the existing wars in the Middle East to the aid of Georgia. It's certainly in his cowboy nature to do so.
I heard that the Russians told Bush that if the tunnel through which they were pumping troops into Georgia was hit by American or Israeli ordinancy, particularly smart weapons, that they'd immediately resort to tactical nuclear weapons to win the day. Maybe that's why Bush backed down.
Sick. Genuinely sick geostrategic thinking...by Obama and the Democrats.

Crab mustard is good
You really should let the Bush thing go. Its going to eat you up inside.
As far as Russia goes, right now its the wild west there. I have friends that tried to do business there. The entire country is like the mafiaoso and Putin is the Godfather. Tactical Nukes? I highly doubt it. However, they do control Europe's energy and would very quickly use it as leverage. Regarding energy though, its ironic that the collapse of the world's economy put Russia back in a box as oil prices & demand dropped. They are in much worse shape than people realize.
