    An Easter Miracle...wtf?...College?

Well via CNN and other news broadcasters, I hope the whole country got to have a front seat for Captain Phillips rescue, and this whole complex piracy problem. I am proud of the Captain, and our Navy for getting our American back.

For the "wtf" threaders, I hope you gained an understanding for the rescue plan, and how training, and patience played an important part. It was indeed a military operation that worked correctly, enjoy, you don't get to see many of them.

For the "College" threaders who are perhaps wondering about Mass Maritime Academy and/or a maritime career, this is what the training (that is to some, unpopular) is all about.

I hope interested folks got to listen to the many news segments in which Admiral Gurnon, president of MMA participated, and got a sense of strength and knowledge, which he applies daily in his running of MMA.

    God Bless,

    Bill

    Big Fish Billy,

Did you by any chance go to MMA? I'll be going to SUNY Maritime this coming fall. I'm trying to find out if anyone has any input on the schools or the career choice .

    Thanks

Didn't go there John, my sons did. I understand your school has a great reputation as well. I won't say one Maritime is as good or better than the other, only that I like what I saw at MMA. As a student or a cadet going through the training and course, I certainly understand how some would think it too hard or too much work, even my son, but for me to observe, it is a chance of a lifetime.

    Good Luck,

    Bill

One is a Mechanical/Optical Engineer working for Gulfstream Jets, the other has an International Marine Business Degree and is working for Maersk.

My brother went to the US Merchant Marine Academy, right across the harbor from SUNY. Both great schools with a big sports rivalry. My brother is an engineer, loves his job and gets paid a sick amount of money. He just got back about 2 months ago from sailing from Texas to Isreal for 6 months, nows he's kicking back and doing nothing with a crap load of money in the bank. He's also sailed on a cruise ship for 2 4 month trips in HAWAII, can't complain about getting paid to sail around paradise. It's a great career path that you have chosen, whether you go deck or engine room you will have an awesome career.
