    DVD Format question????

Ok another mayday from the Deep... Me being the brainless wonder that I am I have bought a thingie that I can burn digital dvd from my old anolog stuff like my hi8 and 8mm and even vcr formats. Its time to go buy discs and I see several formats.

Do I want DVD+R or DVD-R? I have no friggin clue what these things mean . The machine thingie takes a zillion kinds...

My intention is to make DVD's then pop them in the computer for editing and forwarding to Jer so I too can join the Vid crowd and be a modern kind of guy.

Deep, don't ask me why, but what works for your dvd recorder may not work for someone else's or even work the same way tomorrow. I have no idea why this is the case, it's just one of those technology things. I would suggest, when you're staring at that wall of dvd's to choose from, get two or three different brands- that way if one is not working right (the vid burns but not the audio, it doesn't burn at all, etc), you can try the next brand. It is a pain but it may save you a trip once you get going. I can't wait to see the vids!

rewrites can get pricey. Find out what jer can play on his puters dvd player. Some light scribe firmware does not see certain dvd formats. If you were sending it to me, I would only look for the VOB files which are probably in a mpeg 2 format. Then re encode from there. The issue with mpeg 2 format is, to be in that format it has been compressed already. But broadcasting over the internet in a 320 x 320 frame, we should not notice to much grainyness(is that a word) The dvd's you screw up can be used as teasers and sold on ebay

On your computer go to Start-Controll Panel-Performance & Maitenance-System-Device Manager-Dvd/Cd rom drive, when you get to DvD/CD drive it should tell you what you have a (+ or -) DvD drive.

I was curious... Now just confused to death... Guys at the store told me to go -. They had a deal and I got the zillion pack for $10 . Got home and read that my system on the computer is primarily set to take the + but I have been running - in it with no problem today.
What I did was bought a Sony gizmo that burns dvd off of old analog tape. I did a test run and got the - disc burnt. It wouldn't play on my computer or tv.
Realizied I had to "Finalize" it and did so. That one came up on my computer but no audio??? Even mor confusing is that my tv wouldn't read it???

Did a second hour and a half master piece of an old Alaska cruise and nailed it. It plays on compuetr and TV just great like some pro mastered thingie... I think I'm gonna just crawl under a rock now...
