It seems it's only a problem with the two above mentioned companies... it's not a requirement of the CG... you can do your own testing program or be in any other DOT type random testing program offered through many companies that meet the CG's requirement as I understand it.

I thought that was a captain thing ....apparently not..... I just read the the link and its a drug and alcohol test? I could care less about being tested for drugs but i cant drink a(couple) beer(s) while im washing the boat after a good/bad/long (any) day?

I hope I'm right... thats the way I understand it from 46 CRF part 16 & 49 CRF part 40, if not I've been in the wrong program.

makes him illegal on a boat now.
Ok First off, after 911 We no longer fall under DOT rules. We are now under Home Land Security

Does that mean that since im trying to freelance and do fill ins this summer and some of those trips could potentially be on charter boats i need to get a card? if thats the case, and by what box is saying that i cant get my own card because i need to get one through the boat that i am not working on. I really dont want to have to wait tables this summer
Thats right you will need a card or inrolled in a drug testing program

Capt. Jon, as I sated above we are no longer under DOT rules...

Since 911 and the move to us falling under Home Land Security, a lot has changed and will continue to for a while till all this crap is sorted out. Since 911 we have to be finger printed when we renew our tickets and soon from what I here we will have a CG photo ID. Did you know that we are required to have a picture ID on your person now... I was told that when we are on a vessel registered as a charter vessel that we are required to have our ticket on the vessel wither or not we are on a charter...such as just moving the boat.
I think it is in the spring when we will have to have something else, crap I can't remember what it is now...sorry I'll have look it up

Lee, what are the new regulations regarding these changes & do you have a link to them. 46 CRF part 16 & 49 CRF part 40 addressing chemical testing has not changed that I know of. The only change I'm aware of is the alcohol test kits and testing procedures that are now required. I have not seen anything added or changed as to the rest of the requirements. As far as the photo id goes, I was warned when I got boarded in Morehead a couple weeks ago...had everything but my DL... first I had heard of it too. Since, I've even been told by the NCDMF that I would now have to have one as well fishing rec or commercially even if I was not a licensed captain.
