    Driving times to Wash. DC...

What communities on the coast are:

    Nice
    Safe
Offer a nice marina with dry rack storage for CC

Trying to help a friend out and told he and his wife you guys would know best.

So, let's hear it. If you had a home office, but needed to get to DC for meetings 3 days a week, what areas would you look in to?

i live in fredericksburg va. great schools here in stafford county. only 50 miles to dc. about 70% of folks here commute there. there is a nice drystack marina right here on the Potomac. hope springs.

if i only had to be there a couple times a week i would be further down in the Northern Neck. for about a two hour ride you are in a very bucolic rural area. schools stink but you have the rappahannok and potomac on either side of you. lots of marinas and waterfront.

I will probably have a nice little house in Annapolis for rent or for sale in Annapolis. They are some racks in edgewater, some lifts for rent in Annapolis, hell I have a yard he store the boat in for a nominal fee. The commute to dc rush hour, 45-60 moins, non rush 30 minutes.

I am partial to the Northern Neck, but I live there. It is a nice area with alot of water and the housing is affordable for the area. However, I am not sure about dry rack storage. I also make the drive up to Northern VA. There are a few of us that do it but not very many. It is 2 hours minimum.

I live in THE DC Area. I second the NOrthern NEck, or Southern MD on the water. Nice, open properties with historic homes and beautiful views.

    Thumbs up DC Commute

What type of boating do you enjoy? Bay fishing, lake boating, ocean trips? This will definitely be a factor.

They want to have the ability to fish the ocean... i told them to look for an area like OCMD north to Toms River and find a house somewhere between DC and the area if $'s are an issue (it's a little more expensive there than here and I'm not sure they understand just how much).

If he is fishing the ocean and working three days a week or so in DC I would recommend somewhere on Maryland's eastern Shore. He can keep the boat in Ocean City or Indian River and split the difference somewhere in Kent, Queen Anne's Caroline or Talbot County (even some of the Delaware counties would work). you can get property from waterfront to agricultural acreage to historic homes in small sleepy farm towns. When he needs to go into DC he can pick up a commuter bus on Kent Island into DC http://www.mtamaryland.com/services/...lesSystemMaps/

Buss route 922 or 950 will work and since Kent Island is at the first stop he will not have a problem getting on.

The advantage of the eastern shore Del/mar/va is that it's a slower more relaxing atmosphere yet still close to the main populous, also the people originating from the area are some of the nicest most generous people you will ever meet (not to mention Mucho conservative !!!).

if he is a hunter there are plenty of places both public to private to hunt deer to ducks (and lots of them!)

    JMHO!
