Drilling out lure heads to fit a ballyhoo

I like to drill out my lure heads to accept the head of my bally. I like the head of the bally to fit tight into the lure head so it locks on. I get a couple different drill bits and drill like a stepped cave in the back of the lure starting with the small bit and going larger. I found this tool that will do the job alot easyer.

the resin really is easily shaped. Hardwoods and soft alloys will dull the edges rapidly with these el'cheapos. Have you guys tried a file to touch them up

I like the idea of snugging a ballyhoo bill into the lure too. Whether they are "HooHats" or CaboTigers or Gata Gordos, all of our lures are built to do that, "right out of the box". The hole is also great for inserting the forward ends of strip baits or pork rind strips.

First shot is one of our lure heads, showing the big leader and bill hole.

Next to it is a HooHat with a ballyhoo that has had its bill run into the lure to secure it. This is a "chin weighted" swimmer

Lower left is the same lure, but with the chin weight removed. Same lure, but now it's a surface popper and smoker...can your ballyhoo lures do that??

Lower right is the way that we rig our Ballyhoo ProSquids on ballyhoo. How good does THAT look?! This way the bait lasts longer, runs great and it too can be weighted or even modified to represent a secret bait revealed in the new marlin book, a needlefish immitation. I wasn't going to show that (naturally I want you to read the book), but what the heck, I'm adding it. The last shot is of Capt Meme holding a big Cabo ballyhoo needlefish rigged, just before the skirt went on. Absolute death on blue and black marlin and BIG wahoos.

You do have our catalog, right?
