    Drill Baby Drill

Perhaps the pending oil spill tragedy in the Gulf will sway some of the overwhelming support for offshore Atlantic and Artic oil drilling expressed here on SFC.
As this was an active topic during the presidential campains in '08 in which most Sportfishermen here expressed strong support for opening up our near shore Atlantic waters to oil drilling, some may recall my insistant preaching that an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure.--- ie., the risks out weigh any potential benefits.
It is ironic at best that the American Sportfishing Association is currently on its knees begging the Federal Government to spare no resources in containing the oil spill as this spill could be catastrophic to the fisheries in the Gulf.

"could be" hell.......will be.....is....catastrophic! But GD don't let nobody keep a Snapper or kill a Jewfish(can I even say that?)!
Personally, this cures me of wanting drill rigs(floating or fixed) anywhere East of my front porch.

You may be right Glenn. I hope that this tragedy wakes up the industry as far as safety measures go. We cannot stop drilling.

This Industry does not need to be woken up in regards to safety, We lead the world in safety, this is an isolated tragic accident where safety systems failed...

Actually I have read that this is the THIRD time this has happened with BP. There have been 39 rig blowouts between 1996 and 2006.

"In its 52-page exploration plan and environmental impact analysis for the well, BP suggested it was unlikely, or virtually impossible, for an accident to occur that would lead to a giant crude oil spill and serious damage to beaches, fish, mammals and fisheries."

This "isolated tragic" accident however, may cause more damage than we can afford.
I hope and pray it does not, but don't expect that our efforts in mitigating this man made disaster will convince anyone that the risk is worth taking.
Exxon did not go out of business after Valdez and BP will not after this one. Many people will, however, their lives and environment forever altered.

    Tragic indeed.

    Zummie that image explains everything!

Always wondered what the true appeal was about Sarah Palin.
Simply, it's all been about crude! (appeal that is, moving to Beverly, Hills that is....)

They started to drill off-shore when drilling on land was curtailed.
