    Downrigger?

I’m looking to purchasing a set of downriggers to use offshore and need some feedback of pros and cons for the Penn Fathom-Masters 625 versus the Cannon Uni-Troll 10 TS Tournament Manual downriggers

I own Cannon Manual Downriggers and have them repaired every year. The gear/clutch/clicker-thingy breaks on me...but only during tournaments.

I've never heard of issues with Penn.

What are you planning to fish for?

I've got one of each on my boat, that haven't seen the light of day in a while.

Penn - A little bit harder to deploy - you have to use the yellow knob thing to release - once you get used to it, not bad. Easy to work on

Cannon - easy deployment with just the crank. good control. If you somehow get the line around the shaft, you've got a mess on your hands

These days I mostly use an inline planer - unless I'm fishing for kings

    downriggers

I want to get my baits down 70 -90 feet and plan on running a zee wing with these. I want to find one that will stand up to that kind of pressure so I need one with a steel spool

    Nobody's mentioned Scotty Downriggers yet???

If you want a life-time of trouble free service then i'd seriously consider a Scotty downrigger if i were you!

I've used Penn and Cannon and they pale in comparison to Scotty's.
