    THIS DONT MAKE SCENTS..

NOW MOST OF YOU KNOW I DONT GIVE A CRAP ABOUT POLITICS, HOWEVER ONE QUESTION, THIS CASH FOR CLUNKER THING IS SUPPOSED TO STIMULATE THE ECONOMY, "THE U S A ECONOMY" BUT WHY IS THIS PROGRAM ALLOWING PEOPLE TO TRADE IN FOR IMPORTS,
NOW IM NOT BEING A SMARTASS HERE, BUT HOW DOES SELLING AN IMPORT HELP THE US ECONOMY VERSUS SELLING A CAR MADE IN THE USA....

#1. It is spelled sense, not scents.
#2. Many of the supposed "imports" are actually put together in the US. Now, a lot of that money does go to the overseas corporations, but they do provide a lot of jobs here in the US. For instance, BMW and Toyota both have assembly plants here in Upstate SC.
#3. Many so-called "American" cars are actually put together in foreign countries, and even if they are assembled here they are using parts made in foreign countries so they aren't any different than "Imports" which have a similar operation except the bigwigs live in the US instead of a foreign country.

    Hope that answers your questions.

More importantly you have to consider the flow of money. By buying cars (from any make) you keep all the services that are used between factory door and buyer running. Dealerships employ staff, transport companies employ staff and so on and so on. The profits made (if any) and where they go are almost irrelevant.

This is obviously way over simplified but this is the point, even if no profits are made money goes to paying for staff and services and where do these people spend their money?

Yes they save import tax (which would have gone to the Government) but they build plants and employ people. Which one do you think does more for the economy.

One other tidbit of information that is critical to the puzzle is this...many of the dealers who have followed protocol to the letter aren't getting paid for the traded in clunker. They have poured the death juice into the engine and now all they have is scrap metal that can't be re-sold.

Furthermore, with all of the n'er do wells and woe iz meez of this country who ***** and complain that they can't afford a car, you would think that these guv'ment freebies would be a natural fit. Personally, I think some of our politicians should have to drive around in these things rather than receiving the fancy high dollar cars they buy themselves with our tax money.

Can you envision Obama and his posse riding into town driving a bunch of jalopies. It brings tears of joy to my eyes at the thought. Since he wants to turn this country into a third world socialist dung heap, I think he should lead the way by example. He could look just like Fidel Castro riding into town in a bunch of armored up junkers.

what about us mechanics who should be fixing all these clunkers. that is taking money out of my pocket.now people who didn't have a car payment now do. i agree some of these cars should be off the road but i have seen people trade in cars with only 50000 miles on them.

    34-

Yet another good point. With the mileage differential only being 2 miles per gallon, that's like a drop of pee in the ocean. A lot of perfectly good cars with a lot of life left in them are being destroyed all for the hopes of propping up the UAW.

As you stated before, what about the person who is now in debt who wasn't before...I thought that people living in debt was the cause of the recession...wait, that was the first reason...then it was the evil mortgage lenders...or was it all Bush's fault...I can't remember who I am supposed to hate and who is supposed to be at fault now. They keep changing it.

If a car with 50,000 miles is traded can the dealer sell it? You also have to think about the numbers, people were buying new cars last year and mechanics were fixing old ones, people stopped buying new ones did these same mechanics fix more cars? The same cars still there it's just who owns them.

Unless there being traded and destroyed, what happens to the cars taken in under the program?

    James 80-

The "clunkers" that are being traded in under the "Cash for Clunkers Program" are being destroyed. Regardless of age or condition, they are being laid to rest- forever- not re-sold. Complete stupidity.
