Something like this rigged with some strip bait. Around a wied line has never failed me. If you still cant draw a strike and you know fish are there get in a good position to stop the boat with lures still out let them sink for a few seconds and but the throttle down makeing as much commotion and bubbles you can that generally gets them exited, and the action of the lures blasting away from them they cant resist. Of course this is just a pic of a lure similiar to what im talking about, theres some member on this site that makes some damn fine lures he could probably get you hooked up with something good. I think it is deep c but im not sure.
i know this works this time!!! ive caught dolphin trolling with trooling feathers or something like that and ive caught em casting 1/2oz spro bucktail. ive just thought you could troll it for fish too. after seeing an episode of offshore adventures, they used some jigs kiinda like spros so good luck.
trolling or bailing-the Dolphin seem to like our plugs. I guess its in the flash in the plug. We have seen so many times with a complete spread of different plastic out--Dolphin come flying out to rail our Mo fish plugs on the chain. We usually run the chain on the flat lines and its quite awesome to see these fish charge out of weed line and target these plugs. The action that close to the boat gets everyone fired up.
I also had alot of success this year with our small squid chain in my (Dolphin) color. This chain has 3 4.5 inch Dolphin color squid followed by a Mo fish plug. I am just explaining what works for me and my customers. You can also see from the picture of SharkJP and myself, we like bailiing too.
Bailing simplified is slowing down when you approach a weed line. Then start cutting your baitfish (butterfish, ballyhoo, macheral) into small pieces, grab your spinning rod, and start tossing. When one fish jumps on---Leave him on and you will see the action begin. The curiousity and that fish still on lit up brings the pack out of the weeds, and your cooler should start filling up.
The last picture is my younger brother--While in Mexico in May, we were trialing some new products and of course our Mo fish chain always gets thrown out---guess what the first fish of the day was. Hope this helps a little, and its what works for me, there is so many little lures and go to Dolphin lures, I fish what I have been consistanly catching fish on and it fills my cooler.
GOTCHA PLUGS WORK GREAT IF YOU ARE GOING TO STOP AT LOBSTER BALLS OR FISH AROUND FLOATING DEBRIS. JUST CAST THEM AT THE BALLS AND RETRIEVE THEM WITH A QUICK JERK AND THE MAHI'S CAN'T STAND IT.
