Anyone who tries to fight the cabin fever during late winter into spring with some tile/seabass fishing knows what a scourge Dogfish have become up and down our East Coast. They seem to blanket the entire bottom for miles. Does anyone know the affect they have on the ecosystem? I assume they're a predator and tt makes me wonder if they are down there eating loads of seabass. I know there's a market for them in Europe (That's what authentic 'fish&chips' is...yum.), but what can we do over here about these things? This is getting ridiculous...

Its getting to the point in the surf that I beach them and leave 'em for the sea gulls.

When we tilefish and the dogs move in, we just make longer drifts. It has paid off with more tiles and bass while we weed out some of the dogs.

Recently we made mile and a half drifts where we caught dogs, then dogs with bass, then dogs with tiles and bass, then tiles no dogs, then back and forth. We managed a very nice catch of bass and tiles in spite of the dogs.

One more thing, if the warmer water pushes in it tends to thin out the dogs. Look for the warmer water if possible. JMHO

BTW: I am sure there is an ecological reason for dogfish, I just can't think of any good ones!!!

Hi apart from good eating, which they are solid meat few bones, they could be trolled with a skirt if they work watch the numbers drop as the commercial guys climb in with all the bait markets clamoring for the new bait. new rigging styles would have to be found, new tackle,tackle shops will smile the boom has started, be the first get your name down in fishing history!!! " I started the dog fish bait boom" on a serious note they do make good bait for sharks and big flat fish, skate etc how about chunking them? for blues and yellows anyone tried?

I THINK THE WORLD HAS PUT TOO MUCH SAVE OUR OCEANS EMPHASIS ON ANIMALS LIKE FLIPPER.....CAUSE FLIPPER IS A KILLER......FLIPPER IS ONE MEAN ASS MURDERER THAT KEEPS THE MOTALITY RATE OF ALL OCEANIC SPECIES IN LIMBO....I WONDER HOW MANY WHITES FLIPPER CHOWS DOWN ON PER YEAR?


I THINK THE FLIPPERS OF THE WORLD NEED A BIT OF THINNING OUT ALONG WITH THE DOG POUND.......
