We incounter them here on the west coast aswell when fishing salmon, but using lures instead of bait and trolling at higher speeds usually keeps them off the lines. They follow the bait just like the salmon, so where there's dogs there is often salmon aswell. I'm always very diligent about slitting them from head to tail before releasing them.

My problem with the video is that the PETA crowd will use it against us. Personally, I don't care if you put them through a wood chipper. But it's probably counterproductive to put the video on the net for the world to see.

i personally use the special Ginzu knife on them in a ritual ceremony called the "GoomaGatsu" procedure (pretend you are smelling incense to get into the mood - and do not be afraid to talk to them during this ritual). it involves a frontal lebotomy of about 1"-1.5" off their noses and then back to the water they go after a single or double deep jab to the gut.
