    Doesnt sit right with me,

now i know, i'm going to catch a lot of flack for this thread.......... but $200,000 dollars? this is whats wrong with this country! im not trying to pee on any parade, im all for family values but,.........give me a break. i was born in 1956. we lived in a 3 br, 1 bath house. in the summer my mom used to change the position of the beds in my room which i shared with my brother. i thought we moved. we were not rich, but we had everything. i never remember my parents spending a cent to entertain us. i had three sisters, they lived a different life than my brother and i did. we got up every morning in the summer, needing no direction for the day. i flipped my bike over every day, broken or not. we stayed in the woods, caught fish, swimming, always running home to the sound of either my father or mother at dinner time. sweaty and hot i went to bed eager for tomorrow. thats the value we have lost. i never needed $200,000 to have fun. no kid does. this is the result of dumb parents. they think they can fix everything with a uniform and money. put that boy in little league, and the parent argues on the mound. grow up. i fought my on safe and outs. some i lost. some i won. same with my brother. my parents did everything for the five children, and we had it all but i think this is stupid. children dont need $200,000 dollars, they dont even get it. today i live in a home my father never dreamed of. i built my home. before my dad died this january he told me how proud he was. i drove back to the house we grew up in, i couldnt stop crying................it was a long jump my dad made possible. he put me in front of him every chance he got. so did my mom. my brother and i , laying in bed all sweaty from the day didnt think we needed money. we needed another day. we as parents have lost perspective of that value, put a price on everything, buy a uniform for it, and call it an effort. in my opinion, this sort of thing might make you feel good, it does nothing for children growing up. they learn nothing, except.....ice cream over here. great. not my kind of charity, not my kind of effort. waste of time. not how i would raise my kids. not a dick, just my honest opinion. but when i run for the US senate it wont be on this type of free for all platform. this is the most liberal of all thinking i have ever heard. i miss the old days. money is not a substitute for them. sorry, but if i dont say it........who will? rip me apart. respectively, i disagree.

i was almost afraid to log back on......... wow, 2 people are my age. all im saying, i never remember my dad with a bank roll. but he showed me everything i needed. i didnt have a uniform, but he pushed my talent to the top. today, i couldnt be happier. i think we have put a price on everything so we dont have to solve anything. in the end, maybe ill make a contribution but, i would rather just take a kid fishing for nothing.

All I can say is I'm damned lucky to have the parents I have - judging from your post yours were similar.

I bet your mom didn't work and your dad came home every night.

Not having the anchor at home is IMHO one of the main reason we have some of the messes in this country today.

I do firmly believe that an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. That's what 200K is all about.

Well Alex, it took me a few moments to catch on that this thread is about the fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club.
You arogant, misinformed, piss ant, poor excuse for an American that has the odacity to parade around in your German piece of shit car, drinking overpriced Vodka, making sure everyone sees the label, you pretentious *******.
I wrote the following some time ago but never posted it (for a variety of reasons:
Well, hear it is you out in right field, selfish, self centered punk:

Over the years I have been asked numerous times: “ Glenn, why do you work so hard for a kids charity that is not local to you?” This is a very fair question, and perhaps one that some of you may be asking yourself with our fundraising campaign for the Boys & Girls Coastal NC.
First of all, I’ll be bluntly honest ---- it makes me feel good inside helping kids, plain and simple--- no need to explain why, that’s private. But, I’ve noticed a commonality from most every “normal” adult person that kids have a special place in our hearts.
So why not support my local kids charities? First, there is no special reason why I have choose not to put my money and effort in the local kids charities (at least not that I will discuss in public), rather the answer is in the positive for me--- why give to a non local charity?
Obviously the purpose of this post is to be persuasive to contribute to my chosen cause, yet be perfectly honest in doing so.
One of my strongest beliefs is that so much more can be accomplished by helping kids do for themselves rather than gifts of pleasure or even sustenance—You know, like the biblical thing about giving a fish to eat for a day or teaching to fish to eat for a lifetime. Regarding the Boys & Girls Club of Coastal Carolina, this program does just that. The thing that makes this organization special to me is the culture and small town mentality of hard honest work. Whether it be A lobster town in Maine to a Shrimp village in Georgia, coastal towns instill an ethic of hard work and perseverance in life. The Boys & Girls Club helps these kids with this mentality. It is very hard for kids in vacation beach towns not to be caught up in the fun and often not so productive temptations of the beach and party scene. This Boys & Girls Club does it’s level best to instill the small fishing town moral and work ethic in its kids--- no hand outs--- but rather an opportunity to stay on track and carry on the tradition of hard working, productive, honest citizens.
Those that are not familiar with the Boys and Girls Club may not understand that this organization is not a baby sitting facility or just another afterschool day care for less advantaged kids--- it is a lot more than that and one of the strongest rules of any B&G club is that riff raff and disrespect will not be tolerated.
In short, I admire the culture and work ethic of Coastal Carolina and I feel that America will have a much brighter future with these values continued--- especially for those kids that don’t have the structure and/or role models that many, more fortunate kids have.
If you feel that your time and money is better spent in your own community, that is a great thing. What ever you decide, please consider giving a few bucks and time to the kids less fortunate than your own--- where ever that may be.

Dude, you don't have a clue

Sounds like you are quite an authority on raising children. Bravo

It's just this type of kid that needs the help of the Boys and Girls Clubs the most, neglected by the adults in their lives. I'm sure your answer to them would be "go climb a tree, that's all I ever needed", but to piss on the people that try to do a little more is about the lowest thing I have heard in quite some time.

    I'm 1302!

    Generation Entitlement!

You Sir are correct. Things are so way out of hand today. I have 3 Kids and I have tried to raise them much the same as I was raised. I too left the house after a bowl of cereal in the AM and would not come Home unless I was called or it was too dark to see the ball (OUCH!) I had My first job at 12 and at 15 I had 2 jobs. My kids are constantly under peer pressure (growing up in Stone Harbor) to have everything and anything They want....without the work! You need to know that back when I was a Kid in Town, It was not a wealthy resort town but a working class seashore town. That has now changed and The class of people are way different than what I knew as a Kid. That being said, My Kids friends all drive new Beemers or Grand Cherokee's (w/gas card!) and are given anything They want. My Kids all work and pay Thier Own way. Not the case with many of Thier friends. I agree 100% Hubris and without a long rant I feel very fortunate to have been raised the way I was and am twice as thankful that I was able to pass on the values I was taught. No Uniforms Here! But I do spend alot of time with My Kids. I do however feel that kids less fortunate either financially or Family wise, need some help now and then.
