My bad here I guess. That is, the $200k in the title of my thread introducing the fundraiser. The $200k is not the annual budget. Not at all. Rather the $200k was refering to the fact that that fundraiser has raised right at $100k over the last four years and we are now working on the second hundred thousand. As far as your budget goes Hubris, if you would spend one tenth of the effort in doing simple research that you do in trying to be cute, you would realize the magnitude of the costs to maintain and operate this program.

Alex: It seems it I read all the previous posts and responses you were trying to say that money does not fix problems when raising childern but loving hard working caring parents make the difference no matter what their financial situation is. If this is your message I could not agree more.

caveman, you took the thought right out from under me. and if this is his point, i agree, however, the point of the fundraiser may as well be not only giving kids physical "things" but a psychological foundation as well. The knowing that they have some stability from the club is going to be the root of their upbringing. i was under the impression that the majority of the dollars raised went mainly towards the club's financial obligations as well as providing learning & some entertainment items for the kids. either way, as long as the funds are dispursed in a responsible manner (which i'm sure they are) then kids are getting the assistance that they aren't getting from their "parents".

I won't be voting then, because your read in conservatism is way off. The Boys and Girls Club is a charity. Noone is coerced or forced by the Gov to donate. Conservatism, especially conservatism based on Christian values has always recognised the need for charitable works. No one disagrees that $ is no substitute for good parenting. But this is about kids, who thru no fault of their own, aren't blessed with good parents.



Your brand of conservatism is the the reason the left is gaining ground. It plays to the sterotype of heartlessness that IS NOT what real conservative values is all about.
Charity has NOTHING to do with social welfare and shouldn't be put in that category.

WOW...did this thread take off in a different direction.....yes...ALL CAN AGREE to DISAGREE....people/kids in need..yes they deserve to be helped....and fortunately there are some SFC folks (Glenn W...Box...Dave S et al). that are dedicated to their needs.....that is what it is all about....helping those who are truly in need....no not all are dealt the same hand in life.....sure all wish they were sitting on pocket aces....lets applaud those who do care and do make a difference and in this case the B & G club charity....

Unreal topic here. Unfortunately it is usually those that can afford to donate that do not.

There are some big hearted exceptions to this on this site and it appears that you sir are not one of them. Could be one of your kids went to their local boys and girls club as a youth to get direction and good examples and morals. Why they may have or may not have wanted to go is really none of my business.

But at least there is a place some less fortunante and underprivileged children can go if they so choose. That is why it is so important to look out for all kids no matter who brought them into this world.
