Exclamation Does anyone know if anything was located?

I am trying to find info on Jason Franks a member of the crew. His friends up here are worried and are losing hope. If anyone has any info please post it so I can relay the message.

RALEIGH, N.C. --Coast Guard crews began a third day of searching Wednesday for a missing sailboat and its four crew members, who sent a distress signal early Monday morning during violent seas off the southern North Carolina coast.

Breaking News Alerts Helicopter and boat crews have searched more than 38,000 square nautical miles, or nearly 50,000 square miles, for the 54-foot "Flying Colours" since the last signal indicated the boat was about 120 miles southeast of Cape Lookout, Coast Guard officials said. The sailboat is based in Washington, D.C., and was traveling from St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands to Annapolis, Md.

"The search continues to expand," said Petty Officer Larry Chambers, adding that the crew may have turned off the distress signal and managed to navigate to safety.

"As they days go on, though, we realize it becomes less likely of a possibility," he said.

The sailboat's distress signal came in the same day the Coast Guard rescued nine people from three boats off the North Carolina coast, including three people from a makeshift life raft. Strong winds whipped the coast Monday and produced 40-foot swells in some areas, according to the National Weather Service.

Officials said the experienced crew on the missing sailboat includes Patrick Topping, 39; Jason Franks, 34; Rhiannon Borisoff, 22; and Christine Grinavic, 26.

The next bite on a jig.
The news last night, said they were still looking. However, with the hard easterly there was, I'm surprised it wouldn't have put them right on the beach.

I know it put a load of packing styrofoam, that fell off a container ship, all over the beach from Cape Hatteras to Ockracoke Inlet.

Thanks, I don't think Jason or the crew made it. A sad day

MAybe the lack of debris is a good thing... Sailboats can be pretty tough... No debris might indicate that its out there some place in tact. I lost a good friend and tournament sponsor some years back in a freakishly strong march squall line. He was a big time restraunteur with a family. The toughest part was not knowing... Our winds that night were hard west so we would not have had debris...

Storms are bad news. We know that. There are so many variables. Some will suck a boat in and others will slingshot it away. I wouldn't give up hope just yet. I think it was last year or the year before they found a guy and his boat north of the Bahamas near here who had had his sails blown out somewhere off Bermuda and drifted for several weeks if not months. Mans will to survive is a strong one. Lets just hope and I'll even toss a prayer. It cant hurt...

There is a Sailboat docked at the Morehead city yacht basin tore all to hell that was in the storm Monday. I saw it when I went down there to check on a couple of boats to make sure they were secure for the owners. But I think the word was that all crew members were safe... I will find out more. I will see what name is on the boat. I do know it was from Bermuda.
