    Do you tip...

the dock boys / girls at the fuel dock. I always try to give the kids a tip, when I fuel up. I think it is even more important now that my son works at SJ Marina. So please I know the fuel bill is tough, but try not to forget the kids no matter where you boat.

    Good reminder.
If I have to scramble to grab a piling at the dock maybe not. If they hand off the ropes and are friendly, surely

If they got on a nice bikini, who cares about ropes, absolutely.

I always try to do the right thing.......last week I gave a valet a buck when he brought my car up......he did not thank me and gave me a dirty look.

I thought a dollar was sufficient for two minutes work......am I wrong?

    Tip em? you bet.

Yeah I try and tip whenever I can but only if the dock kid shows an interest in helping me out. I run the boat alone quite a bit and with a station up in the fly/b only getting onto the dock and tied off quickly can be a challenge. If I treat the kids right in the beginning of each season they have consistently made sure they hustled up each time they see me coming for the rest of the year. By and large the fuel dock kids by me are HS seniors trying to make a buck and they worked their way up to the fuel dock from other jobs at the club so they 'earned' their way to the 'big payday'. They've been goods kids every one.

I always tip the dock hands. They are a good source of info and hand me a line when they see me pull into the slip.

    Great topic Fritz!

I actually recommend to potential slip holders to take care of our attendants for services like baiting and icing their boats as well as helping them unloading their boats. It amazes me how some take advantage of the guys and gals and just "expect" services that are not normally provided for in a marina our size.

Honestly, we've always been lucky w/the quality of our staff and for the most part it seems that our customers have always appreciated the effort and care they put forth.

I'm sure you're son will have a great season @ South Jersey.

Tip the dock hands seasonally at OCFC, and also t-shirt them whenever I get shirts in.
